Just having a Sunday morning browse around all my favourite kiteboarding sites and saw that InTheLoop has the Flysurfer Sonic FR available for PreSale with delivery in a few weeks... Looks like Flysurfer will get in first for realising this years racing gear...

https://intheloopkiteboarding.myshopify.com/products/flysurfer-sonic-fr-high-high-performance

Has anyone seen/tried the Sonic FR yet or new Infinity V3.0 bar??

I have them preordered for Perth, delivery late March early April. They've taken out some podiums in recent snow kiting events - all looking good for a competitive season. I've put as much information as i have up on my Facebook page, all details in my signature if you are interested.

Not all sizes will be available at first and if it's like the Speed 4 release it's best to pre order.
This is the rollout schedule -

"We will start with delivery of size 11 in the end of March. A few weeks later size 18 will follow and after that 15. Later size 9 will follow."

Most of the pics circulating at the moment are prototypes with the production models of the 18 and 15m being a little higher aspect ratio.

Awesome!

A comparison between it, Chrono and Speed 4 (if used in racing) would be great. I am only keen in terms of kitesurfing, as I don't have a race board.

That would be a good comparison, although the Speed 4 is much more freeride orientated so there will be some obvious differences between it and the race kites.

Ive got a Speed 4 Lotus 12 on hand, so just need access to the Chrono R1.

Speed 4 Lotus for racing doesn't have the legs to match the dedicated race kites upwind,

The lad from the dead-man video Craig Sparkles made mention of this... www.craigsparkes.com/top-10-at-the-pka-brean-round/

" I took a gamble and decided to go with the trusty 18m Flysurfer Lotus, I knew the kite well and thought this might give an advantage on the long downwind stretch..... During the first lap I managed to do ok and keep up with some of the front runners, but once the downwind was over and upwind tacks started they soon pulled away. "

Matt Lutz won that event on a Chrono. Then again Matt seems to win everything in his Master class!! www.gpa.de/regatta/ergebnisse/2014/MASTER.html

R1 vs Sonic-RF, might be a better comparison than against speed 4 lotus,

Sonic 11's have arrived !

One is out on test now, small stock remaining. Sonic 15's currently in transit with Fedex and will be here in a few days. Will try to get some reviews up ASAP.

Had my 1st flight of the 15m Sonic yesterday.Very impressed with the kite. Its fast, powerful and super stable. No wingtip collapsing at all and the power band is incredible.I will write a full review of the 18m,15 and 11m Sonics soon.A few shots from yesterday:www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1637534049803874.1073741838.1454687264755221&type=3&uploaded=3

Would you say it's easier to launch than the Chrono Marv?

Official release of the Sonic FR last night. Both the Flysurfer and Specialist Kiteboarding websites have been updated with lots of technical information and test reports.

AUD pricing is confirmed & highly competitive. Stock is in Perth ready to ride.

Initial feedback from local racers has been very positive - all new upwind angles, very fast and very stable.

Hi guys,

Anybody here who tested the Sonic-FR against the Chrono? I am especially interested in the usability for foil noobs, potentially folding wing tips, low-end and water-relaunch.

Thanks

You mean tested it against the Ozone R1, Elf and F-One. That's the new level racing.
Chrono V2 also getting released soon.

I had a test of the 11m and it was great.. Wing tips didn't collapse at all, which happens regularly on my 18chrono... Felt smooth and stable in the air and didn't want to fly over your head when ur not sheeting all the way in. I didn't crash at all so can't comment about relaunch but saw another guy drop it trying to foil tack and it came back up quite easy..

Foil kites aren't that scary.. theres plenty of decent chrinos second hand for a decent price.. Otherwise the Sonic FR is great and I'm sure you would enjoy it...

Hi Patto, What a coincidence. I had a go on the 11m Sonic last weekend and I must say this kite is amazing!! I never flew any of these foil kites before and I am considering myself still as a beginner but these kites fly incredible easy. Don't understand the hype why this type of ktes is only for advanced riders.

Also, the bar is so light compared to my 2013 Ozone free ride bar, The whole kite feels like a feather, it stays in the air (even in low winds), all goes so smooth and you can adjust the the depower with no effort (not like on my Ozone bar). However, I did not get the chance to launch and relaunch it, but according to others on the beach it looked quite easy.

The 11m bottom end was a bit better than on my 11m edge (hard to say as the wind was gradually decreasing), wonder how deep the 18m goes.

2015 = the beginning of the foil kite comeback :)
So glad to hear that riders are becoming more open to try different things.

I think most of the perceived difficulties with foils are misunderstandings or perceptions built upon one or two bad experiences.

Plus the new generation of foil kites are much improved over the early models.

If you think the Sonic was easy, try one of the Soeed 4's

Nah, foils can be a PITA so much more than LEIs. If you're a kite flyer, it wont bother you so much but if you just use the kite to ride the board, you probably can't understand why people bother. Shame, cos they're missing out on a magic carpet ride

Let's face it. Foils are glorious in the low end. At the top end they are difficult. Try solo landing a 12m foil in 25 knots without getting a tangle.............

So they are not for everyone.

But for a select few they are berries.

If you're landing, so what if you get a tangle? Takes no time to reset it while youre having a break...

Aside from solo landings, top end is where I love my foils the most - boost city!

My life is too jam packed with stuff to be untangling bridles. Its work, work work, family family family, kite famiy family........
So I rush to the beach rig as fast as ****. blaze around for a couple of hours then get the hell out equally as fast.

In short untangling, tangled bridle = pissed off wife because im later than expected.

Lucky for me I have the landings dialed and 95% of the time don't have any tangles.

But I do agree fully powered boosting foil is mucho fun.

PS I don't have breaks kiting. Unless its one of the 2 weekend a year when i break out for a man weekend away kiting.

Neither do I, unless the wind changes.

Tangles aren't an issue, unless you try to be clever. Get the kite on the ground, layout the lines, realign the kite. Relaunch. Had an invert that I recovered but bowtied it in the waves. Took longer to body drag to shore than it did to "untangle" anything. First time in a very long time that my foils have touched the water!

... apart from being a silly bugger and trying to tether land, I can't remeber a landing I've buggered up.

If your missus is moaning about the few moment extra it'd take, I'd be issuing marching orders.
