I'm looking for a wave/freestyle board and think I have narrowed it down to these two. I would love to hear some feedback from people who own either or have had the opportunity to try both.

Basically what I am chasing is a strong, well constructed board for small/medium sized waves with the ability to start learning some basic freestyle moves on.

Those concaves they put on the bottom of the Whip aren't a gimmick, they eat chop

If you spending that $$ you should try your WA custom craftsman board makers I have tried back to back Whip pro to our Smook Shredder and as Listery states the planning hull / Concaves are good in chop and light wind As Whip and Shredder has . Just found Shredder better on waves / turns due to smaller tail area You able to sink the rail in and have more control Keen to try North boards they look good But feel the Cross is more Freestyle board But others may tried both

Just had a look at your Shredder, can you explain the purpose behind the detailed outline of this board? Curious about the nose and tail shape!

I have a Smook Shredder and my son has a Smook Wave Board in PU layup and a Whip pro CSC.
In bay chop and small waves the Whip is an awesome freestyle board for him doing his airs and tricks but as soon as theres a chance of some down the line action or real waves its straight to the Shredder or Wave. Less tail volume thinner rails and last but not least the Quobba fins make them much more responsive and they hang in through turns so much better than the Whip IMO.

My brief for my boards are for wave riders But in saying that the shape of cut off nose boards lend them selves to freestyle The Dimond nose is more cosmetic But also for punching through wave or wind it may help The tail area definitely helps reduced area and helps to push edge/rail and turn harder with more control and bigger the tail area the more it acts like skiffle board and harder to control You also need to look at your weight/height versus the surface area of board and tail

buy something locally made that supports jobs here, not something from a sweatshop production line in asia.
