Ben - Ikon said..
Agreed with above comment it's not full suicide, but it would be half suicide as this doesnt flag out in an accidental unhook ... definitely not recommended for a school or beginner. Not recommended in stormy weather either.
This safety is only good for advanced riders that frequently unhook and dont want the kite to flagout when they crash or miss the bar.
Stay safe out there
Disagree. Suicide was a term invented when kites had very little depower at the bar and putting the leash on the centre line above the bar was actually a seriously dangerous thing to do, akin to disabling the brakes on your car and then driving it.
Modern bridled kites depower 70-90% or more when you let go of the bar, regardless of whether the leash is attached like the pic or not, so its not even close to any suicide mode.
Its a really poorly understood term. Anyone riding for more than a year should ride like that if they use a harness with a hook, so that the kite does not accidentally flag if they do accidentally unhook. So many accidents are caused by accidental unhooking and kites then flagging leading to long swims, tangles with other riders, etc.
People should be taught to use the leash properly and to fully understand the functions of the flag out ring. Every kite comes with a primary safety so can still be flagged if the kite leash is connected as above.
In properly crazy suicide mode the kite cannot be flagged at all and can only be fully released - and only if the rider can actually reach and operate the leash quick release.
