I'm considering starting to do a bit more unhooked stuff, and was just wondering if it is common for death leashes to snap when riding suicide, and also if the attachment clips are prone to bending open and thus releasing the kite?
I'm not keen on riding in flag-out mode due to the rubbish Slingshot elastic bungee that connects to the leash. They seem quite weak and if i let go of the bar too often i'm afraid that i'll be chasing a run-away kite when the bungee inevitably snaps.
On the other hand, i'm worried about the leash snapping when riding suicide, also resulting in a run-away kite.

Are some leashes stronger than others, or are they generally made the same?
If yes, how is the Slingshot leash (2009)?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Cheers.

the standard slingy leash with the red quick release thing is no good for suicide- they let go easily.
most leashes will snap or bend at the clips at some point.
i reckon you are best off making your own from some thick shock cord and sleeve and heavy clips. check out a marine supplies/chandlers.

Haven't had any trouble with my ozone leash. Only ever lost my kite once from a big crash when the QR activated itself, and luckily a mate grabbed it. That was m old cab though.

ride suicide and just get a $50 leash from a name brand. You'll be sweet. Don't worry about it too much. I'd be more worried about a line snapping when you're 10m up in the air!

Thanks for your input guys. I would have thought that kite companies would produce more heavy duty clips if they bend open that easily.

...and i don't worry about a line snapping 10m up in the air; i can only go 6m high

I've been unhooking for a while and haven't had any trouble with bent clips. I think it only the guys who do big unhooked kiteloop passes and the likes that end up breaking leashes. You'll be right, just grab a new one and start unhooking and enjoy

Most safety leashes are pretty cool, they only bend and snap when they are going to save your life. Safety leshes work unless the kites safety is not maintained properly or you are flying way above the wind range of the kite to unhook in the first place.
