Anyone spent any considerable time playing with one?

Being a super heavy weight it certainly wont be a light wind kite but I'm looking for something with more power than my 17m argo. Thats not a bad kite but really starts being powered at 15-18knots so I figure if I could get a litle bit more low end and more power it'd be handy.

I'm happy with my 12m cores and with the new sensor2 bar out soon, 1 bar for 3 kites is certainly appealing.

If tried the 17m 2012 lw core riot.Heaps more power than the edge ,but if you want to go up wind the edge is better.Have you tried the free race boards on the market.Its your only option as big dude!

the 17 argo is a bit of a pig. im not being racist to griffin as their trx is good.
but the argo is so slow and feels like a truck.
demo what you can with the newer 17-19's around. you will be impressed.
loved my core 17. also try the blade FL, 19m edge or whatever you have access to in your area

Yeh mine's a 2012.. its ok and I dont know better i guess, but every single time I lay the lines out or wrap them up, they tangle.

The core 17 gets a pretty good rap so i'm sure the 19 is still just as good. Dont know if demos are available for 19's?

A pig turns like a truck I disagree I have a 2013
17m Argo it's my light wind kite and it turns fast loops really well and I find it works really well in the surf because it turns so well. Like down looping the kite to keep tension in the lines . I do use 2x line extension so around 32m lines I think it helps a lot with the low end . Do you use extra line extension ?

I found in light wind i was reaching above the float on the steering line and yanking half a meter extra to get it to turn similar to other big kites. Im not trying to brand bash just what i personally found. A local guy has the argo 17 as his goto kite, but now looking for an upgrade since trying some others.
If you enjoy it there is no problem.

I own a core 19 xr3, generally used for lightwind though. I weight 85ish pies, seem to be fine from about 10 knots on a sector 60 and about 13 knots on a 132x40 twintip. Find it becoming a handful at about 18-20knots. Never found I needed to reef on the lines unless I let the kite stop moving in very light wind.

Yep found the same with my big core. It turned really good

I have xr3 17 and after a whole lot of 14's I thought ide go bigger.
this is one powerful kite and would be not sure about a 19mtr.
my range is limited at 12-16nots but i'm 78kg.
after 16 plus knots I just cant hold it down.
goes upwind like a dream.
I have heard the 15 is the gem for light wind.
Ask the guys at kitepower sydney,they were going to send me one
on lone sent via freight.
maybe good option when the nth easterly's are back in summer

Depends entirely on your weight. At 82kg I found almost no difference between the 19m and 17m XRLW. If your in the 70kg range the 15 will probably be the go. In the 80s then a 17m, 90kg + go the 19m. All of em are good, get the smallest / cheapest in your weight class.

That's excellent advice. There isn't much difference between the 15-17-19 Core LW kites. You'll be able to kite in 1 (maybe 2) knot less when you go up 2m in size.

Even if you weigh 110KG you will be comfortably powered on a 15 or 17m Core XR3 in 15-18 knots on a regular size twin tip, no need to go for the 19m unless you want to ride in 12-15 knots. Remember that smaller kites turn faster, are lighter and cheaper, so the smallest kite you can get away with, the better.

I've spent a lot of time on all versions of the Core XR 17m and the XR3 would be the best of the lot. Probably the best low-end of any larger kite I've tried, fast turning (for it's size) and very easy relaunch even in 8-10 knots. The downside is I find it hard work to go upwind on a 134x40cm twin tip in light 12 knots winds (I'm 85 kg) compared to other larger race kites such as the Edge. But on a light wind board that doesn't matter as much. I found the 17m XR3 to outperform other light wind kites in very low winds on a hydrofoil, would get plenty of power in 6-8 knots (on 30m lines) and started to trim in anything above 8 knots.
