Ok - a Shameless pimp for Core 8m XR5 kite.

Recently I swapped my 9m XR5 for an 8m XR5. to use for foiling and a TT storm kite.
Got out in about 30knots and man this kite fits me perfectly, very stable and some huge jumps with reasonably soft heli loop or throw over butter soft landings.
I have to admit that this is the most comfortable kite to go hard on, in storm weather. when Id normally use a 7m - this has the wind range to cover it with control. For this particular size I'll not be using another brand for some time

My Core XR5 13.5m took me up to 15.1m in an an unscheduled mega boost. This was a gust in the middle of the river (safe distance from shore and other vessels) - what pleasantly surprised me was that I weigh 110Kg and the kite remained stable and forgiving despite me sh****ng myself. Landed it fine...a little shaken but fine.
I use the 10m between 25 and 35knots. They are so solid that heavy boned (fat blokes) can load em up without a worry.

If you are heavy +100kgs like me, we use bigger kites that are designed for less wind, so they have more camber and thicker leading edges that makes the kite sit further back in the wind window. The Xr5 & Xr6 sits further back in the wind window than the Xr4, so after trying the Xr4 & Xr5 back to back for 2 days, I am sure the Xr4 is way more fun for Big guys, the Xr5 made me feel fat and slow and spending way more energy to stay upwind. my average speed is at least 20% higher on the Xr4
And the Xr4 is way cheaper to get used also

I have Xr4 11,13.5,17 and they are Not for sale!!!

3. the important distance is from the kite to the "Y" split NOT the bar
4. play with Y split up / down 1m to understand difference and fine tune to your style

Core actually explain this on their website but for average joe - Education is important but kitesurfing is Importanter

Sorry for jumping in late here but the Click bar is okay with Core's hybrid supported single front line flag/safety system? To be honest Core is the one brand which I don't really understand how their safety system works. Single front line, sure, Core, not so much. I like Core, would love to have their kites but honestly I don't get it.

Howdy, new to XRs and loving them so far. Pretty much focussed just on big air currently and have them all set on the freestyle bridle settings. Someone said the wave setting is better for height and hangtime than the freestyle. I am using a large trust bar with 22m lines. Any actual feedback would be appreciated.

... just to add ,,,,

If you put one of those Y splitter thingy's on your Ozone bar, make sure you trim your lines to compensate for the new Y position.

I believe the Core like Duotone still have a high-ish Y position so to keep all things even and perfect, trim your lines to suit.

As the 'Y thingy' is raised higher you are effectively shortening the front lines by a small amount so you need to shorten the back/steering to keep things trimmed right. If you just wacked Y thingy on then the kite will feel like its a bit gutless,,,,,,it just won't feel right.

You can either put little pig tails on the front lines,,,,,,, or trim/shorten the steering/back lines some how,,,,,,, or put the little pigtails on the front bridle connection point and that way you don't have to change the bars lines at all when you hot swap between kites.

Either way, don't forget to trim ya lines if you change the Y height.

Or just use your ozone on the low y. I fly my core kites on low y. The thicker bat gives less vibration through the bar and makes it feel less fidgety and smoother. Had the pro 2 but it ducked in comparison. Flew it back to back on the two bars for for a couple weeks before selling the the pro 2 as it didn't fly as good especially on hiatus conditions. The high y is definitely just marketing to sell you their bars. The only good thing on the core bay is the lines are nice. But no nicer than the ozone ones and the ozone ones being different colour is so much nicer for seeing what's going on.

On a bit of a crusade aren't you?

I fly the xrs on the dildotone click bar. am swapping to the sensor one this coming month. as i replace my bar every year for the storm fronts. the xr 6 10m loops epic in 25knots plus have had it stall a couple of times below the 25. but all round like the kite. will possibly get a 9 for winter.

Have had some time now on a Core 7m XR6 - not seen a lot of reviews of the small sizes so thought I'd offer some experience.

I have been flying 2019 Rebels (11 and 9 ) on a click bar but the pricing lined up an opened but never flown Xr6 and ex-demo bar for less than the price of a Rebel 7m so I swallowed the couple of hundred bucks of savings and went for it.

I took it out first in 20-25 knots to start the test (I'm fairly lightweight so can get away going a bit smaller) and the low end was fine. It did give me a chance to throw a few loops and the small size gives a nice quick loop. Perfect for my level and easy to adjust the power by changing where in the window I pull the trigger. Surprisingly for the conditions, it was easy to generate enough power to keep the landings smooth. In more wind (25-30 knots) the boosts started to pick up and the height was easy to access. Compared to my Rebels it seemed a little harder to get that massive spike of upward pull but you still seemed to get decent height even without. Its never going to be lofty jumps in that wind but hangtime is decent for the size.

All in all - its a great intermediate level kite. Smooth. Really good bar feedback and goldilocks turning speed (fast without being a buzzy wasp like some 7m kites). Nice safe loops that encourage you to pull the trigger. Easy kite range at low end and high end. I'm looking to get a back to back demo against my 9m now as I really like this 7m.

Bit of info on the Sensor 3 bar. Really nice ergonomics. Thin and light bar. Small chicken loop. Low stretch lines. Auto untwist works well.
The Y split is 2m closer than my click bar and the gender of the pigtails is reversed so I'll need to fiddle before I can test the bar with my Rebels. Unusual safety system that is single line safety - but with an odd twist. Not really sure I get how its supposed to work but it looks like it does.

$60 to replace a tiny bit of broken plastic...again

Kite power sell the core valve cap for $8, plus shipping.

Cost me less than $20 a month ago, please note it did take a full 7 day week to arrive.

I think the valve cap attachment rope shrinks over time. It is a stupid place to use a prestretched line.

Extending the rope 20mm 12 months ago when I noticed, would have prevented the cap loosing a tooth and saved me $.

lol, I was already considering replacing the o ring for 45c, ended up costing me 40 times more!
