How would you compare the Chimera 10.5m wind range to the Griffin 12m 2009

The 10.5 Chimera won't have as much power as your 12m but it does bring the power on a bit faster and doesn't require as much apparent wind.

Top end is comparable to a Griffin in the same size it just wont be as silky smooth as the Griffin when it's really windy due to less struts.

The Chimera is generally a more dynamic allrounder than the Griffin.

I still love a 10.5m Griffin in nuking winds for some old school air time though.

Looking for especifically wind range Griffin references on the net, I've found for Chimera 10.5 from 14 to 35+ knots, and 12-28 for heavy riders with Griffin 2009.

Obviously the Chimera wind range is much higher, and could be much better too in gusty conditions.


Please Chris, tell us when the Chimera information it's on the website. We are waiting anxiously for it!

It would be interesting to include a "wich one choose section" between Griffin, Argo and Chimera depending on different factors as there is actually between Griffin and Argo. I suppose you have thought on it yet (maybe working on it).

3 different kites means more doubts when you need choosing one... In case of doubt it seems that the Chimera is clearly the best for allround kiters.

At 95Kg, what are the Chimera 10.5 and 13 wind ranges?

No point stating wind ranges as there are too many variables.
The Chimera has a very good wind range, simple.
@ 95kg you will need about 16knt on the 10.5m depending on your board

About the Griffin and Chimera.

From taking to riders who have been flying the Chimeras for some months here is the feed back.

How would you compare the Chimera 10.5m wind range to the Griffin 12m 2009
12m is bigger so has better lighter winds, but the top end of the 12m chimera is excellent, I have riders out on the 12 chimera in over 30 knots for 90kg.
Feedback from riders moving from griffin to Chimera is:

Chimera vs Griffin
Chimera turns better
Chimera has more wind range
Chimera sits better in the wind window when wave riding or going down the line
Chimera Jumps well.
Excellent in handling gusty winds.

I was going to quietly develop the chimera over the year and see what the riders say about it replacing the griffin, less struts, less pulleys, easier relaunch and all the good features of the griffin with the good features of the newer auto relaunch D shapes and stability of a lower aspect.

The chimera has an excellent top end wind range because of a thiner profile
The Argo is grunty with great depower because of the low AR fatter profile

Argo has better low wind grunt and is very powerful for the size and turns great for the larger sizes, so for a kite that works great in light to strong winds go the Argo 17, 13.5, 11.5, 10.5, 9m

Chimera has less bottom end wind range than the Argo being a thinner profile design, this makes it better for nuking winds to average winds, Chimera 5m, 8m, 10.5m, 12m

large kite size, go the argo 17m 13.5m
small kite size, go the chimera 5m, 8m,
medium kite size, argo or chimera 9m 10m 11m

- you talk about Chimera 12. Did you change the 13m to 12 m?
- you talk about Argo 17: this sounds really good for lightwind, specially for racing courses. This one doesn't appears on your site, and I haven't read anything about it on the net. Is the 17m now ready to order? do you have test results for low end? I would be really interested on it for 2011 spanish kite-racing championship.

I spend prob 75% of my time riding the 10.5 Chimera,try to ride 3-5 times a week and im 95kg dry,i can easily get going from 14knots and have been out in winds of around 35knots still well in control without much depower,the chimera is a way more versatile kite than the griffin,its quicker more stable and you can loop it without a worry in most wind conditions,one of the things i love most about it is how fast it depowers with just the bar throw ,most of the time where i ride the gust varience can be anything from 10-20 knots so the chimeras are ideal,no need to be on and off the depower you can fly wide open and just dump the power so quick with the bar throw,i havent ever flown another kite that can depower as quick as the Chimera,can't wait to try the new 9 and 12.

I currently ride a 10m argo and really like it. Would you be able to compare the 10m argo to the 10.5 chimera including comparisons on low end, top end, wind range, turning speed and boosting ability.Also what styles of riding most suit each kite.

Hi mate yea easy comparison,what year argo do you have ,i have a 2011 10m Argo and 2011 10.5 Chimera,usually i always grab for the Chimera,the Chimera feels lighter and more nimble to fly,the Argo is definately a gruntier kite in the same wind and has more float than the Chimera but the boost is about the same ,i would put the range of the Argo for me as 13-30,and the Chimera 14-35,but on a gusty day the Chimera comes into its own as it depowers way faster than the Argo ,looping the kites is about the same speed wise but the Chimera loops with way less pull so in higher winds is way more comfortable.
For down the line wave riding i would go the Argo but for a combo of wave and freestyle then the Chimera is definately the go,hope that helps.
Also if your riding a 2010 10m argo the 011 is way better quicker, punchier and way smoother in the top end.

Thanks for the info. I am riding a 2010 argo. I will look to upgrade probably at the end of the year when the 2012 models come out. I do a bit of everything with my riding, but am looking to get more into waves, so the argo is probably best for me. But I will wait and demo both models before making up my mind.
