Just purchased this board today, previously riding on a slingshot sx 137

Weight 80 kgs usually ride in chop sometimes flat in around the melbourne area. Pretty confident been riding for 3 years now wanna take it up a level and start unhooking etc. I usually just ride chop and love boosting and hooked tricks and load pop. Would say I'm an intermediate rider.

I read in other reviews that this board cos of the high rocker it's harder to stay upwind?

Good for chop?

Great pop?

Holds a good edge?

Good for boosting?

Am I gonna notice that much difference in boards from going from the slingshot sx to the custom cbl?

I don't see how a board can make that much difference, like once I get used to it it's gonna be pretty much just like the old board?

What are people's thoight on the board?

I have had every custom from 2010 to 2012 but skipped the 2013 and I think they incrementally they increased the rocker each year (Andre's influence) but the 2013 was almost unusable. My thoughts are that the 2014 CBL has less rocker than the 2013 and maybe about the same as 2012. I got hooked on the 2011 but they de-laminated and looked cheap after a bit of use. I went through about 3 of those.

I demoed the 2014 non-CBL then went and bought a S/H CBL against the shop's advice and love it.

Once you get used to the extra rocker and all the benefits (easy on knees, easy boost/pop/landings, fun in chop or small waves) the less upwind ability compared to flatter boards becomes a minor issue. I have no trouble going upwind unless it is light in which case I will switch to a surfboard.

I also started on a 144 custom which made the transition to a high rocker board much easier but then moved to 140. I am 85-90 kegs and 6'.

Have to say though I don't use it much now unless its flat - now prefer playing in waves my old surfboard, but the custom was a great way to start getting into waves

The CBL is supposed to be usable at cable parks. I took mine wakeboarding the other day and loved it (although bigger fins would have helped). Good buy.

Ok cool I read somewher that the 2014 is the same as th 2013 rocker?

How was it unusable? It can't be that bad at going upwind can it?

Is it something once you get used to it will be sick? Mainly use it in the chop

Shouldn't you have been asking all these questions before you bought it? I have used 2008 to 2013 and they are all great boards, I have no idea why anyone would call 2013 un-useable? Thats just complete rubbish. If you know how to kite upwind then you should have absolutely no dramas unless you are new to the sport.

Yeah I asked the guy in the shop but then that might be different to the guy in the shop maybe wanting to clear stock and then actual people that have used the board. Just wanted some opinions on it.

The 2013 that I owned came with really small fins which were too skatey for surf and choppy conditions so I changed them up for slightly bigger ones. The 2013 was the most lively custom of the ones I tried, still a great board though.

I can't answer whether 2014 CBL rocker same as 2013, I think it is less but happy to be corrected.

I was riding last night in 22knots on a 10m and easily going upwind of another kiter with a 12m and big flat twintip.

I have been thinking of putting bigger fins on the toeside to stop sliding out when approaching a wave (toeside), but still have all the skatey/wake/carve aspects of small fins on heelside. Have you tried this?
