I am a middle age beginner that is finally starting to make progress since purchasing a 08 Kite (15m) can sail both ways but have difficulty pointing. I am 105 Kgs enjoy just cruisin about and sail in an area where there is always bay chop. I sail in as light as possible up to feeling nervous or getting severly flogged which ever comes first really enjoy it.
Present board is early model Naish 134x490 and am looking at purchasing a 09 Naish Haze like the idea of the timber. Problem is I have no idea of what size to buy as the sizes are such small increments unlike windsurfing.
Would be interested to here anyones thoughts on boards and size?

I reckon at your weight you should be looking around 142 x 42. This will make life easier to get upwind and plane at lower speeds so you don't have such high speed wipeouts.

The Airush Switch 144 x 44 would also be ideal, or if you are into performance boards, look at the Airush Protoy Exile -S. An ideal board for intermediate riders of around your weight. Bit pricey now with the $$^^.

First of all think that width counts most as it did with windsurfing and 1/2" difference in width was a large amount in windsurfing and so it has similar effect in kiting.

your weight and age are only a factor in your mind so think to move up a notch on the wind strength scale and stop looking to slog around in the hard work end of the spectrum.
stick with what you've got until you find you are stuggling to hold an edge when well powered. then politely ask fellow kiters at your beach for suggestions and even a try of similar boards to what you are thinking of.

certainly if you are a beginner and buy a 2nd board now that is ober 40-41 cm wide then I could see you in a short time getting a 3rd. hold off a bit.

From my experience, with a similar weight. I would say a minimum of 138x42, or listen to kite hard, I agree with what he said. My most used board is 143x48. Though smaller boards are lots of fun, walking upwind is not.

I have a custom made board, it is 138 x 38 cm..wanting to sell it so if your interested check it out in the buy and sell section on this forum.. I'm not asking a lot for it, just wanna get rid of it because I don't use it anymore.. I don't get to the beach much these days..

The previous owner weighed around 110kg and he used it as his primary kiteboard. It has no fins so you'll be able to get up in fairly light wind.. Pretty much everyone that kites here at Yeppoon has used this board or another the same at some point and all agree its an all round good board, can pretty much use it in all conditions.. we have quite a lot of chop here as well so it will probably suit your conditions well..
