Just stripped the wax for a fresh coat and though I would post a couple of pics to show how the board has held up.

This board is the one with the inserts... Apparently a bit more glass than the others.

The board has copped plenty of use (pretty much every windy day), used strapless. Plenty of airs have been pulled off, with plenty landing flat. The board has nice heel grooves on both sides of the stringer.

And a couple of these little spots on the rails from bar ends and body corners.

I have only had to do one repair on the board which was just a bit of cracked glass courtesy of my forearm.

The bottom is still immaculate.

So how has your board gone...???

Boards looking good mate, you should get at least another season out of it. Hows it holding up around the front inserts?

Glad you changed your avatar.

Yeah not bad around the inserts.
When I first got it I was thinking it might wear with a steep edge against the harder insert and the softer foam.
But nar, wear is even.

Received my Mulcoy 3 days ago from Dano who helped me out with an ordering hiccup. Rode it today in chest high waves and 9m weather. I have the drifter and got this to go with it and my FireWire Taj, which I loved. After today, this is my favourite board, fast, light, turns on a dime. I'm 85kg it's a 5'10 no inserts and is a joy to ride, might not last more than a year of hard riding, although it feels pretty strong to me but with performance like that I don't care.

Yeah, I've got a 5'10 Mulcoy which I really like. Loose and easy to ride. I have looked after it but I need to be careful as it dings "very easy". It's been out for some small repairs 3/4 times, all around the rail/tail area. Board is marketed as a "high performance" board and performs as such.

I also have a Firewire/Taj 6' which I use for larger surf and traveling as it takes more punishment.

I expect to get a heap more riding with the board, I reckon 2 seasons (easy) if you look after it.

Would I spend the dollars in the same situation again?? YES.

Hey Mike, I'm also quite interested in that board too. Been kitesurfing since 99 and surfkiting since 2008. I'm 83kg and it would be my main board, so I tend to look at the 6' Mulcoy (found one, reinforced version). In which conditions do you use yours (wind speed). I guess you use the Drifter for lighter days, don't you?
Cheers for your feedback.

Great review mate, i have been looking at the BWS board range, was wondering how they would hold up and if id get my moneys worth. Im currently riding a 2011 5'8 Naish Fish, very strong and stirdy, very heavy also, if you have ridden one or looked at one how would it compare to the fish?

Cheers

Pierre,

as my only board I'd get the 6' if i was you. The 5'10 gets going quickly though and I ride very light footed. The drifter is great and is my more allround board, I am using the Mulcoy when I need a bit more bite in solid conditions. My conditions are x onshore, I ride at Camber Sands in the English channel opposit Sangatte in France, wind blown as swell doesnt really make it that far up the channel.

Saturdays forecast 25-40 mph 2-3 m waves and I'll be on my Mulcy

Thanks Mike. I found one in France (could be the only...) in 6' and just ordered it before I actually read your answer. Couldn't wait any longer...
When you ride at home, just tack a bit offshore and we might see each other as often ride in Wissant

Just had the opportunity to test the 5'10 yesterday in light conditions (around 15-18knts, small waves) with my Gypsy 7m2 so not very powered-up. LOVED IT. So lively, precise in the surf. I was surprise how this small board was doing well with my 85kg, pointing upwind better than my Jimmy Lewis chamber 6'1 (which is way bigger). I did not want to give it back to his owner
regarding the construction, the guy has been using it extensively since Jan 2012. The board has few dings, heel dents where your feets feel home, but is still in very good shape.

Still looks pretty tidy.
Lots of little harness marks on the bottom of it though...
I always carry mine wax side on the harness.

i wasnt to sure if it was from the harness hook hitting the bottom of the board while in the water or what? or just my death grip on the board to get up and going again and away from an imaginary bus size white pointer

Any preferences in terms of fin configuration, are the Mulcoy fins worth the $180 upgrade?

My forearm put a little crease into the bottom of my board today...
A bit of epoxy and all will be good.
Loving the board, I reckon its getting better and better.

So impressed with this board aye... Never have I had a 'kite' surfboard outlast a rear tail pad, let alone last longer than a year!!!

Its been longer 13 months now and I can't believe how good the deck has held up.
Minor heel dents at the front foot and hardly any other mark on the board...

As for performance I love the way the board rides. When I first got it I thought it was too chunky with too much volume, but I think the complete opposite now. I love the way it turns in the pocket, drawn out carves and punts...

I only ride it thruster, I tried it quad for a few weeks and didn't like the way it transitioned through the turn (drive>>>loose tail slide).

The board has defiantly faded/lost some of its colour, due to sun or how I clean it I don't know? Doesn't really worry me but something to note.

I have given a few random dudes a go and everyone always rates it, mainly commenting on its upwind ability...

Notice the slick new Taj tail pad, cheers OceanAddicts... Just need a new nose sticker and it will pass as a new board.

If I were to break it I wouldn't hesitate to get another one...

I hope this doesn't sound pimpish; I pay for all my own gear and have no affiliation with any shops (just like to mention them when I'm looked after them as a customer...)

the mulcoy fins work great and im glad i upgraded to them, normal top end tri fins are around $110 - $150, but these are 5 fin sets. on the futures fin chart they are called "loose" but i think there just right for kite surfing, i havent had any problems on bottom turns, up to head high waves, and they have the right amount of fin fizz when they are pushed on the top turns. other top end fins probable just as good, but i prefer to stick to the tried and tested.

i prefer the tri set up. the quad seemed a bit funny in the longer rail turns, sort of a harder turn to make in the end of the turn, the tri seems to allow the front to come around easier at the end of the turn. but the quad and tri are similar otherwise, not huge differences. the quad might be a tad better upwind.

Definatly a sick board. U were killing it on yours at Mdore!!! Mine has held up pretty well given how heavy I treat it. Love the feel of the fins but I kinda wish they came In large as well

Bws kites. Didn't get out much as was busy with uni work. Was probly on my custom short board when you were there, find I need a bit more wind for my mulct. Was an old thing but wanted to see how it went for a few sessions. You definatly have the record for longest sessions at the spot though!! No-one else was out anywhere near as long as you

Haha, everyone seems to be on BWS kites up there.
Down here I haven't seen one!
And when its windy I can't come in... I had chronic hip rash and kept saying to myself 'one more wave' but that would last another couple of hours. Haha.

Back to the mulcoy though, I think I might lay some of this under my wax.

Pearl has done it and likes it so its worth a try I reckon... Thoughts?

Allot of BWS kites as the local shops are pretty hard salesman that know how to sell. I just cant find a brand that has a bar anywhere near as nice. The kite isnt magical but personally i dont think there is much difference between most of the kites these days so i went with the best bar. Been on them since they came out and have adjusted my riding to fit the kite.

Deck pad looks nice, I think its shapers that make a deck pad about 1mm thick as well. Wouldnt mind trying something along those lines as my car seats are covered in melted wax!!

As for hip rash, ive just ordered an ENGINE harness. Custom moulded carbon backplate. Ian Aldridge rides one, looks sick!! will post a review when mine arrives. At the moment im using an old harness that the spreader hook snapped of on a nuking day. hooke up a rope and pulley, feed chicken loop through the pulley. Seems to allow better hip movement and less rubbing

Have you guys tried Greenfix wax, it's brilliant stuff and appearantly doesn't melt in hot conditions (don't have that problem in the UK), it's really tacky, best stuff I've used. I love the BWS bar too, I use it on my Bandits as well a a Noise I have.

My Mulcoy hasn't got inserts and shows a bit more wear, but will get another one for sure.

I've just spoken to my mate in Sydney who says it was 33c there today, whilst I've only got 3c. Think of me on Saturday, next day I have wind, temp forecast 2C, wind chill minus 4, water temp 8C and 25mph wind, lovely!

I've been meaning to post here for a while.
I first got the 5'10" and surfed on it before kiting on it. After that surf i found the tail damage that you can see, from the leg rope. In this board there is NO fibres in the fibreglass in the vertical section of the swallow tail. After several emails to the BWS boys i was told "Bad Luck". The board was a tad low on volume for me to paddle anyways so.... just for kiting with no leggy...

I really like the board and have had to reinforce the deck as the heal dents were getting to deep, all good still goes good.

Really wanted the 6'0" for surfing on and for lighter winds so i bought one off the BWS Second Hand section of their website. The result you see happened in the first surf.

ewwwwwww...
any surfboard can snap, so how did you do it?
before it broke was there a 'oh ****, this is gonna break' kinda moment?

and the tail, I've seen plenty of people do when they use a leggie cord which is too long...
