Good bottom end - about 8-9kts and having fun for me on a 138x41.5 Cardboard, int rider, 85kg. Top end today on same board around 16kts. Turning - ok better than any other good 20m I have tried does sweep turn though not pivot turn. Underloop transitions easy. Upwind - very good. Jumps - nice and very good hang time/float.
Relaunch - only once in 9-10kts in shallow water. a little slow but ok. Could've had more LE pressure.
Riding at redcliffe and it was only 16kts or so for about 1'/2 hour of the 4 hour session. Would've been ok on the m80 power wise too as ther were guys out on 16m caution, 15m liquid force, 18m x2..
Just drove past the shearwater hoping for a kite but stuff all wind :-(
Fark it was blowin 20 knots for a few hours from 2:30 on, but i was too busy fixing some horrible dings on my only board, does someone want to give me another board that i can use/reveiw? Maybe a Brunotti 124 horizon, or a Flexifoil AH pro model or just anything around the 122-128x36-38 mark would be sweet.
NICE review - well done & thank you - just what we want How about a run down on your 'cardboard' Been seriously considering this option since seeing a few at Gero Nats. but havent seen one in Perth since.
Hey Kurt where do you ride at Redcliffe?!!!! where does anyone ride at Redcliffe for that matter!? ive only seen a couple at Queens... a couple at the yacht club and a fair few at humpybong one day... my first ever witnessed kiteloop
Kurt firstly a big thanks for giving me a go of the BFK, I have to respect a man that will hand over a new kite **on the very first day he flies it** to let someone he doesn't know all that well try it out.
I had a couple of runs in prob'ly 7-8kts. I had just landed my x2 18 coz the wind had dropped and i couldn't hold my ground at 78kgs on my little 122 board. Even going downwind a little I was coming off the plane. With the BFK 21 on the same board I could cruise along, just about hold my line and return to the same spot, and even get some little air. I wouldn't have bothered too keep kiting tho, not powered enough to have any real fun.
The kite felt stable and well behaved to me. I didn't get major impression, either positive or negative. It isn't an amazing lightwind machine that redefines the market, but it is a very good kite which does everything it should (for an 05 kite) and comes at an amazing price. The bridle really stops any jellyfishing and keeps it solid. Personally I think the yellow looks good in the sky too.
Just before I had a go there was a little more wind and I saw Kurt getting some really nice 3-4 metre high grabbed transitions with nice floaty landings. It was bigger air than I've seen anyone get out of 10-11kt gusts. I was impressed.
Well today was interesting......... Got down to brighton and I reckon it was about 7-8kts on the beach. The odd white cap on the water here and there. Due to lack of wind and my usual keeness I pump up big bird hoping the wind would pick up to at least 10. A few of the regulars were there and my young foolish friend suggested that I wouldn't even get it off the ground and keep it in the sky - I love a challenge!! So suit up I did and got him to launch me. Well, she stayed in the air but only just - you guys know the feeling where you keep your eyes firmly on the kite waiting for the tuck and fall. Off I trudge out to the water thinking, wtf, I'm not going to get going other than a downwind tack and then walk of shame back to the beach. Jump start, under turn and I was off - for the next hour and a half! The wind did pick up a little - prob 9-12kts average towards the end and old henry rolled out on his 16 and 152 mogul to join me. He was just holding ground so I invited him down to the channel (outgoing tide) and we enjoyed a bit more power (I actually trimmed in a fair bit) and had a cracker of a session!
All the banter on light wind kiting lately was probably the only reason I went out. I hope to do back to back tests with everyone and what we have available locally. R2 18 and 20's, LF 19 and 20, gaastra 18 and a big contra that shows up every now and then. Come down tomorrow Dave and take the 20 for a run and we'll swap and compare . Around 1-2pm I reckon.
