Update on the 07 Yarga.
Well i was lucky enough to catch up with Jeff from Best on the weekend and try out a 9m proto of the 07 Yarga.
The Yarga comes with ez-pump total inflation system the same as on the Bularoo. There is 3 ways you can rig up the Yarga to suit any personal preference, the standard 4 line set up, 5th line or 4 line bridle. Its very easy to change from standard 4 line to 4 line bridle, all you have to do is change the front lines from the standard conection points to the bridle. When not using the bridle it tucks up neatly on the leading edge using velcro tabs. To use the 5th line you will need a kit to add the 5th line to the bar.

The first time i went out i used the standard 4 line set up in 18-22kn on a 5'11" strapless sufboard. I was nicely powered and heading up wind well, the kite flys the same as a c-shape but has a huge amount of depower available. When riding waves i set the trim for unhooking, when unhooked the kite is very responsive and has constant smooth power through the turns, parks well and stays very solid going down the line towards it with no hint of falling out of the sky.
Next i simply land the kite change front lines to bridle and 30 secs later im launched and on the water again. First thing i noticed was the bar pressure is lighter, the flying characteristicts are a little different but has all the same response, smooth powered turning and flys well down then line.
All in all this brief first try of the new Yarga has left me very impressed with the way it handles in the surf. When a demo arrives i will review it more with the 5th line mode, relaunching and freestyle as well.

Why is it every time i here about these kite's all people do is rave on about the massive depower... Yet it fly's like a C shaped kite. Why is this. I do not understand, cause to me if you want to fly a kite that handles/fly's like a C shaped kite, you should just go buy one. Or at least a hybrid... obviously they have some advantage, otherwise bows would have be the first style of kites released....

The 07 Yarga is a hybrid, the reason it has alot of depower on offer is because of where the front line attachments are located for the standard 4 line set up and when using the bridle it works the same as a bow kite. The leading edge curves around and includes the wing tips, no more square wingtips. So instead of the front lines attaching to the front corners which are no longer there, they are attached to the leading edge a short distance up from where they would normally have been attached if you had square wing tips. This allows a better pivot point for the kite and thus creating more effective depower.

That's one sweet-looking kite, vert. Looking forward to further reviews. Do you know where I can demo one in Perth? Did you meet Jeff Biege here in Perth? I thought that the 'Best R&D Center' is located in Geraldton?

Got he new 9mtr Yarga in this week but havent had the chance to get it out as our wind has dropped. Initial thoughts on packaging and appearance is great. These kites are comming from the same factory as the Bularoo and have a better build quality to the Waroo. I will post some comments as soon as we get some wind to test it out.

There will be stock in the country by the end of the month.

Disclaimer I have not received my demo Bullaroo or Yarga so have not ridden the bullaroo or the New Yarga YET!

Well you'd have to split them into two groups, SLE Bow Kites and Hybrid Kites. I dont think I have to tell you about SLE Bow Kites unless you've never seen or ridden one !. I'll use the term Hybrid kites as we've taken the best qualities from both C-Kites and SLE Bow Kites and found a new kite in between, The New 2007 Yarga Hybrid SLE.

Basically we can sum it up like this, the 2007 Yarga is a high performance, extended depower C-kite that gives all riders 4-line, 5th-line and SLE style micro-bridle set up and performance options.

  • In 4-line mode, the new Yarga Hybrid SLE is a high performance mid-aspect ratio C-kite
  • The 5th-line option extends the relaunch and depower available to the rider even further
  • SLE Micro-bridle mode hugely increases available depower and upwind ability

Here's a run down on the tech specs:

Wind Range
  • 07 m 25-35 kts 45cm bar

  • 09 m 21-35 kts 45cm bar

  • 11 m 17-31 kts 45cm to 55cm bar

  • 13 m 15-26 kts 55cm bar

EZ-PUMPTM TOTAL INFLATION SYSTEM: Practical simplicity and rapid inflation.
HYBRID SLE DESIGN: Maximum protected area for rapid depowering, improved efficiency and easy relaunch.
CANOPY FRAMING TECHNOLOGY: The new standard in durability and protection keeping your kite perfect session after session.
SURF TOUGH CONSTRUCTION: A three layer, triple-stitched seam with a full length webbing wrap. The toughest LE seam on the market is also rotated out of the way behind the LE to improve under canopy airflow.
PROFILE SHAPER BATTENS: Improved aerodynamics and stability across the entire wind range.
TRAILING EDGE BATTENS: Smoother airflow and zero canopy flutter in all conditions.
HARMONIZED ARC: Optimized blending of lift and control surface delivers fast turning, easy handling and predictable flying.
TEIJEN RIPSTOP CANOPY: Lightweight trusted performance with high UV resistance from the world's leading Ripstop manufacturer.
FLUID POCKET CANOPY PROTECTION: Flat locked edges on all canopy protection and batten pockets delivers zero line hang ups.
ABC CANOPY SCUFF PROTECTION: Ultra durable, upper canopy protection. Strategically placed ABC guard cloth protects the canopy and leach line from the worst the beach has to offer.
ABC STRUT PROTECTION AND BLADDER END CAPS: ABC cloth with enlarged Velcro fastening protects the strut ends and keeps the bladders locked in place.
MAXIMUM DEPOWER AND SAFETY: Built in safety and depower, perfect for beginners and seasoned kiters alike.
STRUT TIP SLIDERS: Flexible strut tip protection to stop your lines from getting wrapped around the strut ends, no matter what you do with your kite.
REPLACABLE BRIDLE CENTERS: User replaceable bridle center sections; improved durability and easier servicing means more time on the water enjoying your new Yarga SLE.
CFT REINFORCED TRAILING EDGE: Exclusive Canopy Framing Technology includes a reinforced trailing edge that provides razor sharp responsiveness and unmatched durability.
HIGHEST QUALITY MATERIALS: Only the highest specification materials make it onto any 07 Best kite.
SOLID AIRFRAME CONSTRCUTION: The best way to construct a kite for maximum performance and durability, accept no substitutes.

The Bularoo has been created specifically for the challenging terrain and wind conditions that snowkiters and landboarders revel in.

  • Unique 'All Terrain' canopy and airframe geometry make the Bularoo the most stable high performance SLE ever designed for All-terrain kiteboarding.
  • A deeper canopy profile handles gusty conditions effortlessly; delivering smoothness in flight that has to be experienced to be believed.
  • Its All-terrain credentials, depower and stability also make it highly suited to advance wave riding.

Wind Range
  • 07 m 25-35 kts 45cm bar

  • 10 m 15-32 kts 45cm to 55cm bar

  • 13 m 12-24 kts 55cm bar

  • 16 m 08-20 kts 55cm bar

Tech specs:

EZ-PUMP TOTAL INFLATION SYSTEM:The fastest inflation system on the market. Solid and dependable and tested down to -26 degrees.
MAXIMISED LE PROFILE: Increased LE thickness for improved down the line riding.
ADVANCED SLE DESIGN:Maximum depower and maximum safety for use in all kiting conditions and locations.
FLEXABLE WRAPPED GLASS FIBER PROFILE SHAPER BATTENS:Improved aerodynamic efficiency for greater upwind and improved stability.
REDUCED ASPECT RATIO:Faster turning and easier flying.

basically 2 break it all down: Bullaroo is a wave kite if u wna play in water, not as much lift as the waroo from wat i hear n it sits deeper in the power.
Waroo (what im riding) i find is a nice al rounder, i like taking out my 9 in 30knots boosting huge and unhooking n tryin newschool stuff in a good 20 knots, waroos r great for the everyday rider but i find it does get a lil boring with all that comfort of depower yaadiiyaaa i fink i need more floddings
and i am guessing the Yarga being more like a ckite looking alot like the TOrch is for the more competent and agressive rider, i think if u gna use bridle use waroo otherwise ride the yarga like yargas r ment 2 b on a 4 line or 5 line setup. i c they got a lot less low end grunt to but they r more stable and i understand VERY fast!! my friend blair in nz said 11 compares to a 9 waroo im quite keen 2 demo at some point! yesterday and 2day would of binn a great day 2 test the 9

Basically my take is that the Yarga is an all round kite as well, but allows you to change the specific style of the kite to suit the exact genre of riding you choose. If you want a dedicated wake style kite you change to 4 line "C' style. Waves change to SLE format, All round aerial freestle etc use 5th line format.

I think this kite rocks. Well thought out and well constructed.

I have demos available if you are near QLD. Let me know.

Got my hands on the 11m for a couple of hours yesterday afternoon (while there was still some wind). Obviously no wind today or I wouldn't be sitting here having a drink(s) typing this quick and dirty review...

The Yarga I tried was rigged in SLE mode. The wind was a bit all over the shop but I suspect it was around 13/14 knots with quick nasty gusts to high teens/20. I weigh 70kg and ride a Nobile 666. Ability: like many, sort of a weekend warrior... half way thru doing stuff on "Intermediate Progression DVD" Have had an opportunity to demo 07 Waroos, Waroo Pros, Bullaroo... and the new Yarga was BY FAR my favorite. Even in bridle mode it handles a lot like a C kite but with decent depower. It offers very comfortable bar pressure; responsive & turns quickly; is very stable; heads up wind easily; has lots of instant pop on tap and hangs well... actually surprisingly well. I must admit that it was refreshing getting back on kite that felt "C,ish". Toss it back fairly hard, pull in a bit and up you go, go, go instantly I think the only thing I did notice was that I felt the gusts a bit more than what I am used to on my Rebel(s). Having said that they surpass my usual quiver in other ways, and it was a VERY gusty day...

The kite appears to come with all the whistles and bells that have already been mentioned above; canopy framing technology, reinforced leading edge, etc, etc. Oh.... also one pump like Bulleroo. BEST have made sure the kite includes all of the things that have made their other 07 kites durable, and successful this year.

I still think the bag it comes in looks a bit ordinary (has all the bits but still doesn't look substantial like some other bags on offer) but all-in-all very impressed with Best's latest effort.
