Has any one else used these kites, I just purchased one of each and I have to say quite impressed havent used the prodigy in the surf yet hopefully this weekend. I have used a lot of other kites and these are definately worth a try, so if anyone else has them curious about your feedback.
I've used the Prodigy 12 a couple of times - mostly on a surfboard doing downwinders in light wind. I've not flown many other new 12m kites so my experience is a bit limited but compared to my slingshot octane 13, the Prodigy was a vast improvement. I was most impressed by how light the kite was, making it really easy to maximise low wind. With a bit of depower I could fly straight at the kite dead downwind, let the bar out and she'd gently float up to the zenith. Easy to launch, nice bar, looks good on the water.... Couldn't fault it. The mini 5th line ( if that's what it's called ) meant I had to self land it by walking up the centre line to the V - havnt had to do that before, but it was no trouble. I'll have to try the new Flite now - meant to be something special.
I have a 2010 10m razor, so not applicable to current models but as a lineage thing, it is a great start. It's good in waves, not a brilliant drifter and pulls a bit through turns but it is a steady and responsive kite that adds power to carves. It boosts reasonably also, not the highest jumper longest floater around but predictable in the air which I like when I'm coming in for a loose landing. Nige at East Coast Kitesurfing is bringing a few down to a demo at the Goldie and Sunnie in the next few weeks. Saturday he'll be at Currumbin on for the northly with some Shinn boards and Epic Kites to have a go on. So you can ask him more about them there Cheers
Hi, I have the new 9.5m and a 7m 2nd generation Prodigy (lovin these kites) and as well 10m 2013 Razor. The Prodigy is a pretty simple kite really does everything I want it to do, easy kite to fly and I don?t really have to think about it too much it just seems fly along with ya while on a wave. The build quality is to a good standard as you see in most brands now with the necessary reinforcements where its required but not excessive so as I guess to keep weight down helping to improve the drift ability of the kite. I was very surprised myself when I first Demoed the kite how good it was and pretty much placed an order straight away. I only kite waves and have flown the prodigy in both onshore winds (Augusta) and also cross to cross on winds on reefs and beachies around home and the kite has done well in all these conditions, I have been riding a 6ft and 5ft 4 surfboards with these kites. I usually like to move my kite around a bit through turns but the kite will drift quite well as your surfing down the line, turning speed is quick enough and I felt both kites have a similar feel between the sizes. Bar pressure I would say is light to medium my elbow has been no worries so far after coming off my past kites. As far as boosting or jumping seems to do alright but I can?t really comment here as I have not really been pushing it with jumping due to a knee injury, but other crew on them seem to be getting some decent air time. As the above posts said these kites seem to have a pretty good wind range and the low end has been a big plus for me being a bit heavier at 87kg I used to be on my 9m Neo while everyone else was on a 7 or 8 but I find now I seem to be on the 7 as well so all good. My only gripe I have is with the Bar I would like to see an upgrade on the Quick release which I have found a little sticky under load but ok if your aware of it, this is in comparison to the north iron heart QR which is gotta be one of the best in the market. Also maybe some soft bar ends apart from that its a nice simple set up, I have 2 bars one with the below bar trim on 23m lines and the other with their new above bar trim which is a great with a set of 21m lines. Easy bar to tune when required with the adjustments under the floats so no flashy gimics here which is nice, also there are the two power settings on the back lines at the attachment to the kite which makes a fair bit of difference to the power of the kite and helping give that broader wind range. Very very happy with the kites and they are priced pretty good for what you get, just need to get myself a 5m for winter maybe for those nuking frontal days...
Language Warning - we are the voice of Ocean Rodeo in Oz. Prodigy is everything its supposed to be. A set & forget, ultra forgiving kite. Perfect for beginners & the majority of us who dont want to spend every second of our session keeping track of the kite. Very direct, very user friendly and lets you concentrate on the downstairs action. The Razor is the pretty much the opposite. An awesome, powered and fast ride with lots of 'C' kite feel to it. But you are flying your kite the whole time. Boost & hangtime excels from anything Ive ever previously ridden. Word from our sponsored rider is that the 2014 is a marked upgrade on the 2013 esp for unhooking & for getting the timing right through the trickiest of freestyle moves. Ocean Rodeo claim there are only minor mods 2013 to 2014 - mostly in the canopy patterning. Maybe theres some added stability there that can be appreciated by the high end users?? Both models & most sizes - & inc the 17M Flite - available for demo anytime. Ring to book to maybe save a trip in.
I ride 2013 razors and love them, when unhooking you get some serious slack line, awsome for those passes. Relaunch is hard untill you no how to use the 5th. Built like a brick, good for my crashing habits
Thats good to know about eastcoast is in currumbin this saturday I would like to try the 9.5 prodigy as I thought there was no one on the east coast to demo one
Hey magwello, the demo Ocean Rodeo Prodigy, Razor and 17m Flite will be here in another week or so, I'll keep you posted. We will have some demo days when they arrive.
Ive got the 9razor andthe 12 prodigy already but was reluctant to buy 2 prodigys as I could not demo them thats why i went one of each but would like to try a 9.5 though
