The Core GTS demo's arrived today Core have stepped up the little things this year - better bags - better graphics... and little velcro name tags!!!

This is going to be a popular kite this year - it looks better, should have lighter bar pressure, and is priced pretty well too!

thats probably the best "looking" kite I seen from the 2011 releases.

are core running with the same bar again for 2011?

Yep - exact same bar as 09 and 2010... Wind looks good for Tuesday - I'll be on it then

It looks like the kite i have always wanted . Iam saven the money for one looks sweeeeet . whats with all the spare zipties in the spare bag for .

The zip tie seals the one pump tube to the bladder valve.

Nice to see they are using less yellow.......think its time to drop the lemon look ;)

Looks like they have solid build quality, I wonder how much the rings wear the lines, I guess no more than a jammed pulley

Although looking back at core's kite development - I believe their kites are getting better each release. Concentrating on one kite design per year has obvious benefits.

So saying this, the GTS should be a nice kite. There will be the usual freestyle/wakestyle knockers out there but core make kites for the people, freestyle/wakestyle pro's - not so much. I think there will be alot of interest from the GT fans to see how it goes in comparison.

I have also wondered about the whole "yellow" thing. I guess its a marketing strategy (?) - you can always pick a core.

Personally I dont like the strategy (if it is one) as dont like to see too many of the same kite at a beach. I reckon core think otherwise, as long as it a core dominant. Puts me off a little bit as I generally dont like to have the same things as everyone else (just a personal thing - I dont like the sheep mentality). A few times have imagined the panels being red, or blue where the yellow is, just to mix it up a bit and to me these imaginary kites have looked the goods.

In the future I would be happy to see core develop and progress further forward and bring some new colours into the mix. I think this would actually be a good marketing strategy.

Dont get me wrong, I do like a kite that looks good but performance comes first. I dont have anything against a kite being yellow, I kinda like yellow and actually have a yellow kite.

I was really just trying to say I would like to see core release more than a yellow (or one colour) kite only, give their line some variation/choice - thats all.

been riding 09/10 cabrinha (09 with ring for pulley upgrade) no wear on the bridle line, in fact one of my mates with core XR's (8 and 11) used cabrinha rings to upgrade his bridles, and then core have adopted them for the 2011 kites.

Well I don't see that, it is as expensive as any other kite in the market while Australian dollar against Euro is stronger than ever.

pm NickT his bridle was pretty much worn out on his 09 10.5 GT so when he changed to XR's he went with the upgrade. The bridle lines seemed to be quite thick and the same as the depower/centre line on my old Flexi Atom, and they seemed to handle the abrasion in about the same way

Hey default how did ya gess that iam a noob 2 years of kiting and yes i still class myself as a noob (if you dont ask the stupid question you are more of a noob)flowen a few kites so far and the colors and build quilty of the core dose look good . What i really want too know has the new gts have less bar presure than the older gt . The gt i flew was a 09 and the bar was like trying to drive a truck it pulled like a truck and was just as hard too steer as a truck without powersteering . As for the zip ties on the one pump pipes now in this modern world with all the bling and fantasic stuff and using a cheap zip tie dosnt seem right . What happens to the sharp end after you cut the excess off when the kite is packed up (cuts into everything ) . Why dont they just use a piece of the same pipe streched over the pipe . Holds just as good and wont cut everything . Just my thinking dose make sense .

Its all good when the winds blows .

good response surface 2 air.....stick it to the "prick"

I have two core Xr's 11 and 8, had a gt 10.5 which had heavier bridle lines than the xr's and the wear was quite significant lines needed replacing after 1.5 seasons.
I changed to the stainless eyelets after someone i new replaced a bridle line, thought the pulley was ok (which it wasn't) and snapped the new line in 1 session.
Figured it was able to happen to anyone if the pulley failed.
I am running the same bridle lines on my xr's that they came with and haven't noticed much more wear in 3 months, just flattening out a bit.
Didn't notice any change in the speed of the kite but for peace of mind reliability wise i think it's a good change.

steady on there "red thumbers" just referring to the prick that those cut off cable ties give to the canopy if you have to use them

We have 10/11/12 in Sydney for demo, kites look great and the bag is one of better ones.
I'm with default, bit over the yellow white thing.

Hi Guys,

Just arrived back from holidays and have found two GTS (10m and 8m) sitting on the door step. BTW, whats up with the weather???

I hope to have them out on the water tomorrow if the wind is up. Jees the Core stuff just gets markedly better with each new model. I love the look of the new kites. Can't wait to have a fly. Has no one flown one of these new kites yet????

With regard the Yellow/White thing, it is a marketing strategy and makes it easy for the dealers as we only need to stock one colour. Guaranteed if I only have one 9m kite in stock and a customer wanted a particular colour 9m, I'd have the wrong colour. Happens all the time, very frustrating! Having said that, I requested Core do a Red version last season, but they like yellow/white. Oh well! <shrugs shoulders>

With luck I'll be writing a but of a post ride blurb tomorrow evening.

Marvin brought his 2011 GTS (8 and 10) to PNG with him. I got a chance to fly on the 8 in what was initially 28 or so knots before it dropped out later in the day to around 17 and I had to take it in. I was very impressed. Good relaunch, felt very nice in 28 knots, and also managed to get me back to shore when the wind dropped out. The depower straps on the bar were a little confusing at first. Also accidentally pulled the quick release as the wind was dying but actually managed to put it all back together in the water and relaunch. All up through, very happy with it.

I ended up trading in my old kite and and bought a 7 and an 11 for this year.

Managed to get out and play with the 10m GTS at Scarbs today as follows:

Wind conditions: Appalling 10-25 knots W-SW

Water Conditions: Awful (Like a washing machine with sucky close out walls)

The conditions for a test were pretty ordinary and for sure, the kite will feel somewhat different in good conditions, but the test ride also allowed me to feel how well it would handle the less than perfect conditions.

Much of the looks, build, and what-have-you have been discussed and pictured so I'll stick to flight details.

The GTS initially was a bit stally due to the old bar I used being a bit out of tune, but a quick adjustment and it was flying perfectly. The GTS has BIG power and it comes on quick. It's grunty like the GT but is much less jerky.

I set the kite adjustments to fast turning and light bar pressure and it delivered as suggested. Probably as fast turning as the GT but with about half the bar pressure. Power was much smoother and in general the kite behaved very well with no bad habits that I could manage to find.

The grunt was noticeable straight away and it felt really boosty like it would put you into orbit on a good jump. The few jumps I did do were quite good despite the conditions and the fact I was on a surfboard and not wanting to break it. Loft felt good and the kite was fast to respond when you put some effort into, otherwise the kite turned progressively when light turn pressure was applied.

I think the trade off for smooth power and light bar pressure may come in the form of slightly less depower, but it was a bit hard to tell in such gusty conditions. Certainly the 10m needed a fair amount of depower/trim to handle the 25 knot squalls, but was still comfortable.

In general, I think the kite is wicked fun and will really impress the Core fans out there, especially people who liked the GT power but not the bar pressure. Much more test flying is required to complete this review, but for a winter surprise, it was good.

I have a 10m and 8m available for demo if you're in Perth and are keen. More later ....

Hey KH,
Is the bar tuning you needed to do something that will need to be done every time you switch between old and new GT's, or was it just this a one off situation. ie. I'm looking at getting a 12 or 11m GTS and have an old GT 9m so will I be able to use the same bar and lines set up when switching between kites.

The new kites fly on exactly the same older bars. I haven't checked whether the older bar I used was correctly trimmed from last season, I just grabbed it and ran down the beach. I even rigged in such a hurry I failed to notice the bar was set up for smaller kites ie on the inside setting for narrow bar. I was disappointed in the turning speed until I remembered and noticed the bar ends. I just dropped the kite at the edge of the window and changed them to the outside and found the sweet turning I expect from Core kites.

The beauty of Core stuff is it is easy to whack a knot in the pigtails of the front lines if you do need a little more depower to prevent stalling so you don't have to worry about the bar change between kites.

You will easily be able to use both kites on the one bar. The GTS is really nice and I think once you fly it, you'll probably want to change the 9m GT over too.

I'll be placing a decent order shortly for stock so if anyone wants to place any advance orders, let me know soon. I hear the kites have to come from Germany and not Sri Lanka as Core can barely build them fast enough for Europe so there may be a short lead time before we see kites here in Oz (not the usual fast delivery).

All good though, no negetives to speak of as yet.

Hi Guys,

Whilst showing the kite to a customer yesterday, I noticed one of the biggest changes in the GTS to the other Core predecessors - The lack of Dacron in the canopy!

The new GTS is built without all the Dacron in the wingtips and trailing edge, it's much lighter but still has good static balance in the air to prevent it from luffing.

The new bag friggin' rocks too!

Small things I know, but it's the little things that make the difference.

It's a freeride kite right? Not a freestyle C'ish kite like C4, VaporX, Vegas etc.??

Interesting. The core website lists this kite as having less bottom end and more top end per metre than the Riot XR and far more/less top/bottom than the GT, yet it looks much more like the GT. Is this a marketing thing, or have their wind-range testers been putting on weight, or is it really less of a grunty beast than the GT?

For those who've ridden one, and can compare windranges to the GT I'd appreciate hearing more. How do the long bridles go if they take a tumble? How's the relaunch in very light wind?

Hey Dojo

As I've only ridden one size for an hour or two in appalling conditions, I wouldn't have the experience yet to go calling specifics like what you are after. The GTS felt pretty grunty to me more like the GT than the XR. When we get a nice day, I'll get other GT riders to give feedback against wind ranges.

Long bridles haven't been an issue for moi. Pretty much always been able to relaunch regardless of crash. Haven't tried relaunch in light winds on the new GTS so have no comment either way at this point. I'm sure I'll get some more hours up on it soon and will have a more informed opinion.

I hear there is a rider in QLD who is currently writing a review on the GTS after she has been riding it for more than a week. I look forward to that review.

Looks like a sweet kite Darren. If it's anything like last years I'm sure it's not going to dissapoint in the boosting department. Can't wait to have a crack at one and fly it back to back with my 2009 Gt.
