I'v just been given a Naish Helix and was wondering if it would be a good kite to learn on as i have been learning on a North Rhino 8m 2006 5 line kite. I'v found the rhino to have a lot of power in 14-20 knt winds but not a lot of depower, still throws me around at times. Any info would be great.

Hey Mate, I have a 09 2012 Naish Cult that i purchased new in 09 but have only started using in the last 3 months as a beginner.

I find the kite very simple to re launch when you have enough wind obviously.

I think because the kites are fairly heavy i have found you need atleast 15 knots to fly the thing without it falling from the sky.

Now that im up and going on the board i find the kite to be nice and powerful, the depower is a little tricky to do when there is alot of pressure in the kite. I have used mine in up to 25 knots but wouldnt use it in anymore than that depowering kites makes them fly **** anyway.

Going from an 8m to a 12 m will be like getting out of a clubsport and driving a truck alot slower turning.

I dont have much to compare mine to but i have riden a 10 m ozone rio and found
the helix was alot slower but had more balls.

12m is probably to big for the conditions over here during winter but when i have used it ive had fun and hant cause to many problems just pump it upp tight.

I haven't any experience with the helix, but it has to be a better kite to learn on than the rhino. The older c shapes have little depower and are much harder to relaunch.

Go see your local kite store they will be able to sort you out with a lesson or two and make sure the kite is suitable for you.

Hi

The Helix is my favourite kite ever, fast and powerful, in my opinion the best kite Naish ever produced.
It spins on its axis and has the fastest vertical lift Iv ever experienced.

Its more aimed at the advanced rider market but something you can grow into.
I think they stopped making it because it can fall backward in light winds but just let the bar out quickly to try to save it.

I went to the Bolt the following year and it had rock solid bottom end but not so good over powered so Iv dumped Naish.

Just the other day I thought Id never sell my Helix 8m ever, I can scare myself silly with that thing.
