Warnning-boring for exp kiters,but if you`ll take time to read perhaps you could add something constructive for the benefit of all starting up.My second time on water on my own started badly.Kite in theair very unresponsive,landed rear lines one knot closer to kite and setting from AB to max power.Up again and same result with depower strap on max.power.

Starts on the board hopeless kite keeps flying over my head like mad.I kept losing control and landed a few times in water,to relaunch very difficult.They say kite is designed to taxi to the side of the window but it wasnt the case I had to force it to go there by pulling on one rear line and then relaunch from opposite line.

At this point of time I thought I made fool of myself in my first post when I did recommended this kite to the beginners and was critisised for doing so.I already got my cheque from Best but still I felt bad for pushing such crap..After some time I was told my depower strap was in the wrong setting for the light wind of some 10 knots only ,you cant put it on max it makes front lines shorter and kite does overfly after that advice kite was much better on 50-70% of max power but relauch was still bad same as attempts to ride.

The rest of the session was on the beach and such lite wind is perfect to learn self start and land.With selflaunch I didnt follow the manual and put sand only on the end of the kite,I didnt have heart to fold LE as they tell us ,not sure if its wright or wrong but the kite was very easy to relaunch,besides I dont think I could fold LE kite was so inflated that it seemed impossible anyway.

Landing was also very easy using one of the rear lines near the ground on the side of the window.I cant see any risk in selflanding provided you have plenty of room around you, at least 50m I think and you unhook from the harness just before landing the kite,something goes wrong just let the bar go and of course the wind is not too strong at this stage 15 knots is probably the limit ,but down the track I think selflanding is the way to go.

Again didnt follow the manual that says its safe to selfland using frontlines!!!!!???.Next time.In conclusion even such a bad day can be turned into positive since itis really good to practise kite control in safe fashion,and as they say kite control is 80% riding on board is easy.See you on the water.

10 knots is very light for an 11m waroo. I went out on Saturday with a guy who was on a 09 13m Waroo on a surfboard in around 10 to 12 knots and was a bit underpowered at times.

You'll be amazed at how differently kites perform in the winds that they are designed for.

yeah dude I would chose your words very carefully. The 09 Waroo's have to be one of the best kites for 2009 providing there is wind behind it. 10 knots is a pathetic attempt, im surprised you got it flying lol....anybody would have had a bad time in conditions like that.

Personally, from what I have experienced on the 09 waroo 11m thus far:

Firstly, I tried the 13m in 16-22 winds, im <70kg and I was half depowered and fully fcking lit, My hangtime was easy 4-5 seconds at the top of my jumps, they jump amazing and hang insanely.

I then straight away launched the 11m, OMG fully powered and fully lite the kite jumps as big and super quick to turn.

Dont write them off, they are a great kite and BEST have come very fare in 1 yr. I was umming and arrhing for the SB4 10m but i need that extra size.

Post a msg when you try it in ideal conditions mate, your going to love it........ :)

A good day of discovery for you .light wind handling and flying can teach a noob many things .

I flew the 07 waroo 11m for a season, weigh 70kgs, didn't bother taking it out in anything less than 15knots.

Dont know why seabreeze keeps moving my posts to gear review section .Do they call it A REVIEW!!!!!!!!!!. Of course I do realize the kite didnt perform due to light wind and by all means its not crap Lukeyglasso ,please read my first post 09WAROO 13M.The point I was trying to make its very good to fly the kite even in marginal winds. Just imagine how easy itll be to fly it in 17 knots up ,for 80 kg according to spec its starting poit.Cant wait.

It's all in the title of your topic - it's your perspective on the 11m 2009 Best Waroo which is a review.

Maybe you should have called it "a beginners perspective on a day's kiting in light winds" and not discussed features of a kite - you would have found that just about any 11m on the market would have behaved in exactly the same way for you in those winds, I can assure you it wasn't the kite's fault.

Which is a good thing I guess, becasue now you don't have to feel bad anymore on your choice of purchase.

Once the wind is up, self launching/landing is always a heart racing experience .. I've made plenty of stupid errors, got lines caught on bits of wood in the sand, almost wrapped around signs on the beach, kite has relaunched while I've got a handful of line ... always gotta be ready on safe and fully aware on self launch/land.

Sunseeker makes good suggestion. If you're keen to write a post more about beginners tips, then yeah - that would be great for the "general" category.

dude you just need a little more time on the beach flying your kite and getting used to the whole experience and the way the kite fly's.The Waroos are fantastic kites and are dead set easy to fly once you have the basics down.

Kites are hard to fly in light winds when you are learning,its like driving a car on ice.. every mistake is magnified and its so much easeyer for you to loose controll.

Also there is no need to fold the Leading Edge on moden bow/hybrid kites when self launching. you also mention some other bizzar points.

Sounds like you should go see the boy's at SHQ or RPS and get yourself some decent lessons and re learn the basics.

Good effort for trying on such a light day though,I know how it is when you get new toys and you just want to get out there no matter what.

Flying kites in light winds and keeping them under contoll is one of the best things to do really to understand how it all works.
It can however end in frustration.

You watch next time you go out in slightly stronger winds it will be all to easy for you and you will have learnt some new skills from that last sesh in light winds.

Your next reveiw on the new 2009 Waroo will be nothing but praises!
