Non Race Rider Review

Rider: Weight,100kgsLevel (intermediate,advanced)
Style: Freeriding, Surf
Weather:10 to 15 kn
Satisfaction 9/10
Disclosure: team rider

Enjoyed a great weekend at Inskip thanks to the Jon and the Kitepower boys for orginizing the event.
Wind was pretty poor for the most part of the weekend but on the home rounded the entrance point .... yes wind!!!Pumped up the 2013 15m edge and had a great session.
My comments:
I like the new graphics ... very distinctive and i have gone green this year they look great.
The valve has O rings .... yey ...no more slow leak.
]Noticable changes in the composition of the kite for weight saving but strong and reinforced in al the key places.
Bridle lines very thin .... watch out as they can tangle and knot easily, double check before you launch your kite to avoid a power loop on the beach. I think it is a good idea connect the pig tails when you de rig to avoid this.
Flys awesome.. nice comfortable bar pressure.... (i had it on the back settings).
Loops really nicely... (should also point out i use Q lines)and when the lines are fully loaded it loops surprisingly quickly.
Boosts really nice and hangs well. got some pretty respectable boosts in pretty marginal winds, so i was happy.
Flys almost identical to the 2012 13m in terms of turning speed .Very happy with my decision to go up a size this year from the 13m to the 15m .... i still have the 11m and 9m to fly yet, but i can tell enough already to know that the 11m is gonna be goooood!

What was your bottom end...the 10 knots as you said? What board were you on?

yeah probibly 10 knots and i was riding the underground SRF which is not a great lightwind board. on a big board i reckon 8 knots is doable at my weight.

eppo got to be honest 103 in the birthday suit.
and in reply to big eezee..... not every one rides the same board or is the same weight .... this may come as a surprise to you ..... also within each type of kite the different sizes behave differently....its kind of a well know fact. But if you think you can get all the info you need about a 7m or a 9m from reading the 17m review then dont bother reading the other reviews.....you are in control of your mouse,

I got the same as you Rusty, a 9 & 11. I'm thinking of getting a 15 but might wait til I try the 11m a few more times.

*review is from another heavier guy who doesn't race*
I got to try the 11m out on Sunday and I were really impressed with this kite. Once it got some board speed up the power just keeps building and building so it loves being ridden hard and fast.
I had it out in very marginal wind first up on the 149glide. Wind was 11 to 16knts. It supprised me how much power it had. I expected to be walking back up wind and wasting my time, but it just trucked along once it built some apparent wind.
Then the wind picked up later in the day to 15 to 22knts and it was nicely powered on the lunacy129.
The boost and float- awesome! this thing is like a hang glider once you are in the air. Takes a bit to get the timing right but when you do, man this thing goes big. Cant wait to try it in a solid 25knts and the 9m out in 30+knts. Its going to be a good year!

The turning speed is pretty slow. They are a long, high aspect kite that turns on its tips so thats to be expected. Turning the bar hard still gets it to loop alright.
These are not a novice friendly kite. You have to edge like the old days to get it to slow down. Letting the bar out only works so much.

Overall, loving it!

The bar is nice and comfy. Slightly outdated but works fine.
The bag is how a bag should be made - BIG! Fold the kite in half, in she goes. No hassles.
The screw-in dump and inflate valve works a treat. I have never used this system before. Makes pumping up easier.

I'm keen to hear more on the 15.

enough talk. weres the pics or video evidence of insane boosting in silly light winds?... i want to see it.

better yet i want to see 15m edge manhandled in 20-25 knots for crazy unsurpassed glide.

What he said ^. I wish I could justify having a big edge just to boost....just can't do it, but again it would be nice!
