anyone flown all of the above? ideally back to back?
I'm particularaly interested in the lift of the new cat/reo compared to the dice.
I know the reo kicks arse in the waves but i'm told it also has better lift and upwind this year.
I have demo the dice Nice kite But I went for the new reo 6 ,8 &10 I love them ,great lift and heaps of control and constant power where the Dice did not in **** wind and all as before re waves Note a have been using Rebels up to now from 2008 So it's great to have wave kite but still have lift and power of the rebel Was out on the 10 m and another kiter on new cat I was jumping as high as him and up wind just as good
so it the new reo has as good lift and upwind of as cat what is the point of the cat then? wouldn't they be very similar then?

Similar question Re dice to the Rebel after trying the dice why would you have rebel As stated above that was only my observation ,I bet the cat will boost better and have more power With the right kiter As others have said Demo Demo and demo they are such good kites from both camps We are so lucky with 2014 kites

Why would have a rebel if their is a dice? Very very different kites for very different purposes.
The new reo does sound awesome. Let's see if someone can unhook this puppy and see how she does freestyle wise.
Here in lies your answer I predict to the need for the catalyst versus the reo and the dice versus the rebel or even the Neo (north have a few more differentiated kites obviously).
But hey if all you are going to do is wave ride hooked or unhooked and do some good old fashioned boosting then you can ask why.
Yeah that's me. wave riding and old fashioned boosting. What ever is best for that combo I want to know about it.
So was back to back riding the reo and ca
Both 12m, rider weight at 86kegs. Kites 2014.
Reo was boosting well feeling alright powered unhooking for some testing, raileys and r2b. Needed trim for that kind of unhooking, jumping was pretty nice, overhead and pull in to go up, nothing big but very predictable and smooth.
Swapped to 12 Cat in water, instantly thought wind had come up about 3-5knots. Well powered, needed trim to unhook. Jumping put my timing off as was going way higher and longer. Lighter bar pressure on the cat as well.
Normally ride C4's since 2010, and cat was very impressive. To be fair I liked last years Cat too but when Rob changes little things like bridles it normally makes a big diff in feel.
If I could only ride one kite it would be the Cat. ![]()
must be good north copied it and called it a dice. ![]()
how do you find the cat compared to the c4 Dan? I'm on 2012 10m c4 and to be honest I hate it bellow 22 knots. It just bores me to tears. I jumped on the 10m dice yesterday and it like your explanation between reo and cat. the 10 dice felt soooooo much better than the c4 in every way. Particularly jumping in 20 knots was fun on the dice. boring on the c4.

You are fcking kidding me right? Your ignorance is astounding. I have heard one guy saying what's the point of the rebel if their is a dice, now this, a kite based on a Vegas platform that has been around for years.
Christ where do we find these guys?
Hi Plummet,
To be honest, was the C4 the kite for you in the first place. Yeah i Love them, but based on the kiting you do, I would have thought Edges or Cats......
The reason I love them is all based on Freestyle characteristics, and the want to unhook, and push in that direction. The question I would ask you is, what type of riding do you want to be doing?
I'm only Guessing but would have guessed that a Boosting wave riding kite is more your thing.
In which case Try the Catalyst, VERY VERY different to the previous years CATS, Very Free ride orientated, easy jumping and great depower.
Only my opinions, Only way to know for sure is to try all back to back on the same day.
Hey And im pretty One Eyed Ozone But Im only trying to Give you Opinions on the kites I have actually used.
D
Sorry DJ above, a little harsh but true from where I stand. The last post I will support.
From impartial riders I trust locally, the cat is indeed a smoother, quicker more refined kite than last year. Although very, very different is not their description.
Enjoy.
C4 was usefull a year or 2 back for my style. I loved it. But now I want more boostage in thr mid range. I have no complaints about its boost potential at the top end.
Hi Eppo
Easy, who are you calling ignorant? And perhaps you could explain why you think I'm ignorant. Or should i call you some names first before i say anything for you to take me Seriously.
You have to admit it looks a lot like a Cat. And it got a great rise out of you.![]()
In regards to "very very different, to previous years kites, I should clarify that I meant prior to 2013 Cats.
@Plummet, yeah I can see why you would have wanted it. Over the years I found the C4 to be very technically demanding, which I liked, however not as easy to jump.
In terms of Plug and play, the Cat or Edge (kites I have flown) are very easy to get the best out of, perhaps that is what you mean by Midrange boost.
From what I was doing the other day, The Cat was Awesome, Great low end, and wicked boosting, also the ability to unhook and Throw down. The Reo is more of a dedicated kite from the feel and the look of it compared to the Cat, very much sits a bit further back looks squarer in the sky than the Cat. You know when you jump from one to the other that the Reo is a low aspect power machine, great on a surf board! And the Cat wants to be flown and jumped. In addition, when I said that it felt like the wind increased when I jumped on the CAT, the other bloke I was riding with, Said the wind decreased when he took the REO.
In my mind
REO = WAVE kite best with surf board.
CATALYST = wicked FREEride alrounder, good boost and easy to boost, lighter bar pressure.
C4 (have not used the 2014 one yet) Get out your boots and lace up and rip off the donkey dck.
Edge = Race and Boosty freeride.
And Eppo my little chump, call me ignorant again and Im going to send the stasi after your sorry little ass.![]()
must be good north copied it and called it a dice. ![]()
From what I can gather from the previous ozone "just in time manufacturing " love fest thread on here that's 100% impossible.
Don't North "stock pile" their kites for a year before they release them? And ozone do all their R+D right before production?
IF ANYTHING its the other way around. And NO I'm not suggesting that Ozone actually copied North in the Cat/Dice department because I have ridden bother extensively and they are completely different machines.
Hey Spark
you would be the man to then tell us the Differences between the two kites, I'm assuming both were the recent models (2014) and similar sizes.
lead on good sir...............

No, to be fair I have ridden the 2013 cat 14, 10 + 8 M (10 meter the most as it was my main kite for about 4 months).
Obviously 2014 dice. 12, 9, 7 and one ****ty session on the 6 when I should of had my 9 pumped up.
And to be fair again, only been riding 1 1/2 years so a fair technical comparison of these 2 kites is not going to some from this keyboard that's for sure.
Both great kites, there is no question. Personally prefer the dice and that's why I'm on them this year.
Anyway you obviously weren't sincere with your above comments. The "lead on good sir" kinda gave that away. Maybe see if you can get a ride on a dice.... you might be pleasantly surprized, even as a one eyed ozone guy.
I have ridden bother extensively and they are completely different machines.
yeah man very interested to know your thoughts.
What sizes have you flown?
something I like about the dice is that its available in 11m size. Cats and reo's 10 or 12.
I think 11m might be a better size for me?

Na you got me wrong sparky, I"m interested. "lead on good sir" was intended as a gentlemanly way of inviting you to comment.
Have they fixed the top end on the 2014 Catalyst? I own a 2013 8m and it seems to be boring, boring, perfect then a surging fluttering mess in 25-30+..
re: cat Vs reo I haven't flown 2014 of either but isn't the fundamental difference that the Cat generates power in its turns & looping where as a Reo pivot turns and lets you hold your line? Since you ride mutant in waves & love to boost surely a Reo in a larger size is the wrong kite..
Well one thing is for sure we are a passionate bunch. Lol.
Hey at least we are talking about two awesome brands/lines of kites.
Btw I am really looking forward to riding the new cat and REO. Also really looking forward to norths new evo incarnation.
The reports on the new REO and cat are really really good.
But I need to find that out myself. Until then.....

choose you sizes carefully, i was riding very powered on a 7 edge and swapped to a 9 dice, fully trimmed, really leaning on the rails it gives in, maybe not so important if you want it as a wave kite, but for a powered freeride it was lacking, personally i find the cat the same
Gives in? Upu mean folds or deforms?
neither, very stable, just when i ride on a full rail i like to ride on a full rail, i dont want to lay off to let the kite recover, even full trimmed and at full choke itd give up making you lessen off, a fair few kites do though not just the dice hence why i got rid of my cats, or a rider at a lesser weight might help
Yep cauncy is right here. Compared to the edge, which just keeps on giving.
But that's not what the dice, cat nor REO is for. Again depends on what you want and how you want to ride. Nothing beats the immense power of the edges, from all the kites I've tried anyhow, and that's a few here and there. ![]()
Oh yeh plummet 11m for sure.
Sorry Cauncy. I still have no idea what your talking about? do you mean when your railing so hard like the pic the kite is pushed to the edge and looses power where the edge when powered up keeps pulling like a train?
Sorry Cauncy. I still have no idea what your talking about? do you mean when your railing so hard like the pic the kite is pushed to the edge and looses power where the edge when powered up keeps pulling like a train?
Trying to be kind with my comments, but simply put I found it gutless in comparison

Yeh he's right. My brother is still coming to terms with riding a C kite, misses his edges.
I was able to watch and get mentored off a C kite rider and he helped me work through this and learn how it should be ridden. Depends on what you want from a kite in the end and where you want to go.
Ok,
Yeah I want a sliding scale from train like power at the low end to fast nimble but no overly powered at the top end.
If I want train then I fire up my 15m speed. in the 10m size I like want abit of everything. A do it all kite. mid aspect. ok at waves ok at jumping.
I've thought long and hard about the edges in smaller sizes but at the end of the day i'm in the waves too much and am prepaired to sacrifice abit of height/glide for wave performance in the 10m size. If I want insane float I can allway fire the 13m edge and hold it to 25 knots.

Sounds like you may have your rear lines too long - not enough power in the low end and luffing at the top end. The 2013 8m wanted the rear lines about 5cm shorter than the factory setting IMO. Give it a try.
I had heaps of fun on it in as little as 17 knots - punchy little kite. For me (78kg) it topped out at about 30, but given it's excellent bottom end, the fun (and indeed exciting range) was very adequate. 20-28 knots - the absolutely sweet zone for me - really dynamic and made me confident and inspired to push my limits.
