I have been kiting for a few years now and am keen to give wave riding a try without putting too much money down. Would also be a light wind option given I kite sydney's northern beaches where it is always light.

Would a foam surfboard be worth the $20 investment to give it a go? My thinking is that they are super buoyant for light wind and a bit more indestructible for the likely beginner spills. I know true surfers wouldn't go near them but I'm more interested in working out if it is doable/if the technique learned would be transferrable to a better board later on.

Worth 20 bucks but I bet you bust it within a few hours.

Lots of kite surfers only use twin tips in the surf, so I assume you want the surfboard experience.

You would do well just going to a pawn shop and finding a "fish style" board.

Very true, I use my 5'10 21 wide fish in the surf and love it.Rode better than my nugget which I sold ,and the fish only cost me $50 . Am riding from 12 knots with a 13 meter edge.

Upside of the Nugget is you can do sent jumps with it, but my fish would definitely snap in half.

This fish flys, loves to be airborne and no sign of damage yet
