Just received a naish kite I bought second hand. It is in near new condition but has sections quite messy with surfing wax. I am afraid to pour hot water on it in case it affects the fabric. Scraping it is a mundane task with not so good results and potentially weakening the fabric. Leaving it will get the rest of kite messy and sand will stick to it (not good in the long run either). Any tried and tested methods anyone?

The photo does not show it too well - it is quite extensive, say over 1 m2, some on heavy duty material, some canopy material.

Hot water.

Tried to check on waterproof ripstop fabric (which kite canopy is made of) - any garments made of it (rain jackets, etc.) are meant to be washed in cold water only. It typically says the fabric would loose waterproof qualities in contact with hot water, bleach or solvent product, excessive heat, etc.

So yes, hot water will probably get rid of wax but most likely damage the kite long term.

Decided to put the messy section into freezer overnight. I know it works with candle wax on glass for example - maybe it will work with surf wax on a kite. Will report on it soon.

Freezer did not work - ended up using hair dryer on medium heat and wiping it with tissue bit by bit. Not sure what the red thumb's for .....
