Hi All,

Heading up to camp in the dunes around Lucky Bay for the Easter long weekend. Thinking if the wind comes up that a trip to kite at Port Gregory looks like a lot of fun.

Just wondering, what winds are suitable for Port Gregory for a relative newbie?

Any info or advice for anyone who knows the spot would be greatly appreciated.

Gregory is an ok spot,
The may be a few boats inside so if not competent stay clear also the fringing reef
A 4x4 going south isn't a bad option
It's general chop with a bit of swell through the passage
Nothing to rave about IMHO, plenty of the same along our coast,
Horrocks is a bit more happening ,
If a general cruiser it's fine

Yeah as Cauncy says, Port Gregory is not brilliant, the South end is smoother.
But for a newby you'll have fun I'm sure.

Southerly sea breeze is a good direction for the port. Sunday is looking pretty good!

Lucky Bay is one of the most unique remote flat water spot I've kited. Definitely beginner friendly as long as you don't go face first into the reef. It's not super wide but wide enough to enjoy some nice butter flat water tacks.

Access is a bit of a mission and you will need a proper 4x4 with tyres down to drive up and down some dunes in soft sand but that's what makes it extra special I guess.

Looks like you might get some pretty light breezes over the weekend, hopefully you have a big kite and a big board otherwise I don't think you will kite much unless the forecast changes.

Thanks everyone. Am across how to get into Lucky Bay, have camped there before and have the right gear etc for the trip in. But am new to kiting and hence the questions.

I am a newbie but can mow the lawn and keep upwind, and can manage to slide transition succesfully probably half the time, not a complete beginner but not far past that.

Thought it was a bit narrow for kiting in that area bordered by rock / reef at lucky bay, which is why i was thinking Port Gregory given it also has a protected area. Not ready to be in open ocean water without other kiters around if I need help.

I had seen a few youtube Videos of Port Gregory and they looked fantastic, will also consider Horrocks as it's not too far of a drive from Lucky Bay. But the forecast has changed and looks like no wind all weekend, so may just have to spend it on the beach with a rod in hand instead.

Appreciate the info though, and I now know not to make the drive to Port Gregory unless the wind is in a sea breeze sort of direction.

Bugger what happened to Sunday? It was looking epic yesterday evening. I'll be out at Horrocks over Easter if the wind is in. Normally a few of us. What kite do you have? I'll look out for you. I'm on north Neo's and a surfboard.

I've got a 10m Cab Radar on a Cab Custom TT. Red kite. If the wind comes in I'll head for horrocks and come say hi. Forecast looked exciting until a day or so ago. Guess its that time of the year though.
