complete noob, been studing and learning, been out on the water a few times, loving it !!!
you cant beat being pulled through the air like a ragdoll by a massive kite to crash land in the water some 10 to 20 meters down wind ! can be dangerous but if thats all i ever achieve I've had a great time !!!
However, I would like to get up on the board.....

So, question is, I have an old C kite, a 16m North Rhino 2, love it but i am struggling to understand if the lines are all meant to be the same length as expcected with newer kites ?
I have the steering lines, then a safty and centre line, the centre line terminates with a knot/loop allowing two shorter lines to the bridals. the the very centre line weaves it way up through stitched loops to the centre of the kite.
the setup is complete and looks fine to my knowledge..

I am finding a little slack on the centre line even when powered up and all loop to knot possibilities are all at full extension/option
consiquently the saftety line is very tuaght and the line to my chix loop has slack.... not ideal im sure ?

Does anyone know if all the lines on this old C kite 5line are meant to be the same length or as an option to the centre/5 line is supposed to be longer ?

Sounds like you're about to kill yourself or others, get a lesson!

When I read posts like those I always hope it's a joke...

A 17 year old C-kite is only good for the bin and the very worse kite to choose for learning.

It also sounds like you are trying to self-learn, which is also a terrible idea.

Step 1: Bin this old gear

Step 2: Get professional lessons, as many as you need to learn all the safety aspects and be independent in deep-waters.

Step 3: Get gear in good condition that is no more than few years old and has been well looked after, beginner friendly, etc. Don't buy used gear without an expert guiding you and inspecting the gear with you. If your budget allows for it, get new gear, plenty of great deals to be had.

Kitesurfing is not a cheap sport and is also dangerous, people get seriously injured and killed. If you can't afford lessons, you can't afford to kite.

glad to hear you enjoy crashing if thats the case you have a bright future in kiteboarding ahead of you because we must crash before progression can be made particularly at the higher levels.

if you see anyone not crashing then it means they have given up.

my man if you dont buy that i will thats madness and believe it or not given the different design (fatter blockier kite / longer chord length) shes probably got about as much power as that sweet 16 meter curvy you got going on. no bar and lines but .... lets find you a bar

I DID

used bars fONE and cORe ...... but they are the old twisty quick release style that they used to avoid patents for a bit and honestly even tho they only 99$ i just know who ever silly enough to buy these things in first place they did something weird its depressing ****ty old bar and lines costs as much as such an awesome kite but here we are.... people tend to have 3 or 4 kites with 1 bar so the 2nd hand market shows this.

anyways i hope you consider just NOT useing the 16m rhino 2 hahaha i personally would LOVE TO use it for a sesion or 2 just to see how the unhooked loops go on it i remember this style being very tractor tanky just pulling down wind and im curious how that would play out 20 years later now that im a little bit better at kiteing.

and just to clarify this current kite of yours with your own confusion about line lengths is ... how would we say... a bit of a CONCERN kite buds right to sway you off it and im kinda like ****n punks not dead eat concrete but allllso suggesting keep it and come back to it when you start unhooking in a couple weeks just for the sake of a faster progression in the sport.

i think its quite critical you have a bar and lines with a full depower single line flag out its just such a vast improvement on kiteing safety not just for you but everyone else around you

So I brought these all very cheap and with a land board, I got my harness for like ?30 and my board for about ?30 too.

So where I am, in the UK, there is a large open body of shallows, Poole Harbour, ideal for learning, loads of space and anywhere from 1' to 4' deep, really is ideal.
I will be getting lessions, as my budget grows i'll invest further in tutition and gear, but I've only been doing this 3 months and these kites where super cheap and theve alowed my to experiance the sport and decide I like it , I suppose ultimatly they will go in the bin, but as it stands Im learning every day with kite control, body dragging, self rescues and boards starts.
My crashs.....I'm ok, appreciate protencious comments corncerning safty of course, but im out in light wight wind retrospective to the kite I choose to use, loads of luanching and landing experiance, water luanches too, its all experiance in my book and if these kite or not ideal then when I do get a more contempary deisged kite, then all the better I think.

I'm not rich and yes my budget is low, luckily I live where alot of kite surfers are and deals to be had are always popping up.

I have no idea if it has a specific name, besides 5th line. IDK why you'd want to name it?
If you're seeking to replace it, all you need is an appropriate length of Dyneema with a loop at one end for attachment and a few knots (pigtail) at the lower end for adjustment. If you can research whether the kite in question flies best with loaded or unloaded 5th line, it'll help in setting it to near the ideal length, with some room for adjustment.
Welcome to a great sport; it sounds like you have a wonderful spot to practice! I hope some of those local kite-surfers will also help you along your learning journey, particularly in relation to ensuring that you're safe and not a danger to any other people. But just bear in mind that you will sometimes get inaccurate or confusing advice (especially online), so don't always act on everything you're told without checking other opinions! A formal lesson /lessons are certainly a worthwhile investment to ensure you're on the right track & not missing anything from a safety perspective; also good fun and would give you a chance to experience and compare suitable up-to-date gear. If you can do it locally, having a relationship with a good school will often mean getting future advice and support at no cost.

Whatever money you spent on all this old gear was not worth it at all.

It would've been a much better idea to spend that money towards lessons.

Get gear after or during lessons, after getting professional advice from your instruction or school.

On very rare occasions about once a month on alternative years I've found myself calling it Gertrude but it depends what movies I've been watching as I watch quite a lot But technically it's called a safety line ..I E flags out when released on middle as opposed to on four line on one of the centres

Anyway...I really like your sense of humour a good sense of humour goes a long way in the world today especially with all the pedantic sales marketing U haven't found out about yet (

To be honest...sound like U r doing wellWhatever equipment U have ...it's good enough for now despite the time factor

(some...not all.. shop owners will allways patronise and try and belittle U and tell U to bin gear as they want U to buy theirs for one thing...)

Hope U only use that 16 on a nice clear day and understand forecasts well!
