Hi all,

I recently finished editing a line tuning video that was specifically made for kiters with little to no experience in tuning lines. Over the years I've been surprised to see the amount of kiters out there that are kiting with poorly tuned lines while unfortunately being unaware of the problems or how to fix it.

In knowing that there already are a couple of online videos on the subject, we thought we could be more comprehensive by explaining and showing the effects of poor line tuning to help kiters recognize their lines are in need of adjustments.

Many thanks to Jason for helping me make this project possible.

Stay tuned!

Christian

Nice video, should come in handy for my lines after a few more seasons.

Like the idea of the screw driver also

Nice video boys (and possibility girls... I can't see who was behind the camera, nor doing the video editing).

Good production qualities, and good pace.

Great video very well explaned . Can you do one of the trimming the kite in flight . I have found others not knowing how to do this correctly and resulting in a badly flying choked kite . Just an idea .

And do one on the best board position to go up wind?

Thanks for the feed-back guys. The goal of those videos is to demonstrate complements of what has already been learned in quality lessons and not to be a substitute for lessons.

Learning to use the trim strap should be part of your lessons. Water starts and riding upwind are topics that are very well covered in the beginner progression DVD which I think every beginner kiter should have. Not sure we can do it any better anyways.

Thanks for this vid I tried it today and my front lines were heaps longer than my back lines which may explain the tendency for my kites back stalling in the waves on marginal winds, I assumed it was all pilot error as only been kiting for 18 months but now I can blame my gear, well at least a little.
I assume if I cant correct it enough by lengthening the back lines that I will need new lines as the front lines don't seem adjustable? I have a 2012 ozone bar.
Would it also be more noticeable if your front lines have stretched when using a smaller kite say a 5m compared to a 12m?
Thanks

Hi Wheels, it seems that your front lines have stretched a lot. You don't necessarily need to change your front lines unless they are starting to fray. The solution is to add line connectors at the end of your back lines to lengthen them (was actually going to add this in the video but it was getting too long). You can usually get those from your local kite shop/school. I had to do this on a older kite once and it made all the difference. Until then you can also use the trim strap as a temporary measure to shorten your front lines a bit. Hope this helps.

You would probably notice uneven back lines or uneven front lines more easily on a smaller kite as they are more responsive/sensitive to steering input. But for the front lines being longer than the back lines it's probably as easy to notice on any kite size. It's more a matter of the amount of length difference, a few centimeters can go unnoticed for most people, but when you start to get more than 8-10 cm of difference I guess most people would feel something's not right. The idea is to check your lines every 20-30 sessions or so. At the school I find myself tuning lines on a weekly basis!

Thanks heap for this,I will get some extensions so they are perfect and I used the lines today that I had adjusted yesterday by lengthening the back lines to the last knot, used them on my 8m and what a difference it made, they still need another 60mm on the back lines but I am sure the extensions will fix that, I have been using the one bar and lines for 3 kites and I also learnt with this bar/line so not surprised they were stretched about 120mm.
Thanks again
