I somehow managed to loop a string around my hand when self landing
I had walked up centre lines and was just pulling over the leading edge when kite drifted into power zone and relaunched , taking my fingers along for the ride , I immediately quick released however I had to endure a second or two of tension before the kite released properly and let go of my hand , please take this as a warning to be very careful when self landing and make sure you never loop a string around your hand , deliberately or accidentally , lesson learnt here

Sorry to see that it looks awful, possibly lucky it's not worse!

From what I understand when self landing you are meant to be unhooked already, therefore not requiring the use of QR?

I guess it wouldn't make a difference if a line is looped around you, but potentially would save someone who didn't get the QR off quickly.

Cabrinah bar requires you to stay hooked in for self landing , and it's really dangerous to unhook a cab bar while self landing , hand is ok will be back in water soon
This really took me by surprise , just putting it out there to hopefully save someone else from copping it even worse , will prob just qr my self lands for a while and re load the lines , probably a good way to test my qr as I really don't use it much anymore

Your lucky, degloving of hands and fingers to the bone can be quite common, also people tether launching run their hands along the lines which IMO is daft, as I've seen some Nast cuts when they've tried to pull the line when the kites gone skyward, generally your steering lines are 250 and middle are 350 kg plus breaking strain, your skins gonna lose

My experience in re-launching was only a slight rope burn.
But by pulling strings to get the kite to turn then as it powers up even 1m of string burn can do damage without even having the lines wrapped around a hand.

Biggest rule with anything to do with rope, cable,wire,string, etc is to not wrap any part of your body around it. It may look fine but if something changes and a bit of tension comes on you can get really badly hurt.

If you. Have to grab the line for any reason us you harness hook on one of the steaming lines and feed it through the kite will flag out but go no where and the tension is being held by your harness hook not ya pinkies.
