the pic of the kite is not mine it was posted by Sandfoot that is his kite lol i was up yesterday in like 7/8 knots very light wind a friend of mine has a 13.5 kite made by BEST and that didnt even get up for more than 1 minute while me on the other hand was having fun with my mate on the beach watching me haha thank you for your input but i think whilt your previous post was helpful i dont think this one was it was actually insulting, sorry mate.

I have somehow managed to get pics of my 2 budget brand kites and bar set up in the gallery the back one is a 12 and the front a 9 i up loaded them on my phone so i dont know how they got there haha but i tried.

If you get into trouble you have to release the whole kite from yourself ! you end up watching your kite blow away !

im not entirely sure of the term flag line but my leash hooks up to a line next to the depower line and when i release the chicken loop im still attached

Are you talking about the steel ring on the chicken loop or some were above the bar ?

The black line has a ring on it through the hole on the bar. Lots of steel to catch your hands on!

if you look at the pic of the bar opened up you will see a blue line that line goes through the bar and at the end of the line is a metal ring that can just be seen. my leash hooks onto that i had to release the chicken loop last week and every thing disconnected except the leash and the blue line that goes through the bar is connected to the leash. its a 2010 design so it has safety, clearly not the most advanced safty system going atm cause all this new stuff is really good and looks very cool too

way better to connect the flaging line to above ya trim set up there is a ring which is only connected to one front line . you are getting mixed up with depower . what you are calling depower is actually a trim if you eject to where you are connecting you are not depowering the kite you are adjusting trim ( yes alittle of depower ) connect to the ring above you will find it slips one line freely and this is the true depower . it is very similar to the old cab bar

when i first started I hooked my leash to something it was the steel loop attached to the chicken loop as shown in the pic, after i had my lesson i was shown to hook my leash to the blue line that runs through the bar on my paper work this is called a saftey leash line.

That blue line runs for about 3metres and then it connects to a redish elastic line which is connected to the depower line im absolutly sure that i am completely unsure about the terminology lol but once the redish elastic connects to the blue line it runs 2 ways,

1, it runs up further along the line where it splits into 2 red lines which attach to the inner depower points on the bridle
2, it runs back to the line which i think you call the trim line which i believe is correct

I am not familiar with the term flaging line can you tell me about that. is that just another way to say leash?

In any case that steel ring that is connected to my chicken loop as shown in the pic i dont know what this is called or what it is for its just there. would that be for another person to hook onto in an emergancy perhaps.

And you say you have been schooled don't know what a flag line is no such thing as depower its for trimming !!!

Thanks for the comments I took up kite surfing as i recently lost my 2 girls and wanted to love my self and find a good group of ppl to learn kiting from as it gets me off the couch. why don't you do your self a big favour and look up the word tool in the dictionary lol seem as you wish to be schooled I am a Human not a tool how about you get your terms correct and while you are there how about you read the rules from this site its pretty simple you should be able to do that!!! and its YOU ARE a TOOl not your a TOOL as you put it, Derrrrrrr which was did he go George, which way did he go.

Sorry for your losses and much respect to you for taking on a new challenge later in life.

Sometime this forum really pisses me off as some of the people on here seem to take it as a chance to grandstand (cite: the recent sexism thread). I guess you will get any number of people in different places and mood states on any given day so some bickering is to be expected.

There's also the old familiar problem of tone of voice being obscured in the written word.

Anyway - I wanted to say I've appreciated your candor in sharing your experiences with these kites and in trying to answer people's questions.

The photos were interesting. Certainly something different...if everything was the same.... and so on (and some people are already saying that the innovation curve with kite tech is flattening)


I don't think you were ever saying "you HAVe to get these kites and no other!"...just that you were pretty happy with what you found.

AND you did show them to your instructor who probably did some checking and tuning of things to make sure they were as safe as they could be.

Hopefully you'll explore the safety systems in detail as we hear time and again that is something too many people avoid doing for fear of losing session time; and if you are kiting in the Winter, learn to watch the forecast, sky, and other kiters.

This will be my first serious winter as a kite boarder so I'm really looking forward to the extra challenge of big wind and small kite.
