Thanks to my excellent planning skills I find myself with absolutely nothing to do between 23 December and 2 January. So the idea is to get into kitesurfing. I used to do a bit of windsurfing and did a single kitesurfing a couple of months ago. This being Melbourne, I came out of the water a fully formed icicle and decided to wait for the weather to sort itself out..so yeah still waiting...

I'm thinking to go someplace WARM for a week or so, where it's consistently windy and I can take lessons/hire gear every day. Are there any good spots like this in Australia? Bonus points if it's a pleasant destination to chill when not in the water :)

Cheers!

HiAlexR,

Western Australia / Perth would be a good destination for that. It's quite warm now with 25-35 degree days and wind almost every day. You want to book early though as school schedules may be fully booked soon. As for hire, I doubt that schools will let you hire gear as a newbie. For example, we only offer hire for students who can ride upwind well in a variety of wind conditions + do transitions. It can take a while (a full season or more) to get to that stage. One week of lessons may not be enough to get you up and riding. I suggest you read this blog post: www.kitebud.com.au/how-many-lessons-do-you-need-to-learn-kitesurfing/

hope this helps

Dude, go to Shark Bay, get your lessons off Damo. I don't imagine there'd be a better place in the world to learn. sharkbaykitesurfing.com/
