I had tried to self rescue and get back to the beach but the wind was SW and blowing cross off shore. There was no wind at the point where I needed to swim back to the beach (approximately 300m) and the current wasn't helping with bringing my kite and myself back to the beach. It started to get dark and after a long time of trying to get back in I made the decision to ditch my kite.

Great to see you got your kite back NeTRaVeR, bit worried about the swim in option in the dark though. Did the BB WP end up picking you up?

The kite was picked up by water Police but the kite is dead

The barnacles shredded the leading edge and sail. Also , the lines were cut on the bar during the recovery process.

It's a bitter pill to swallow and a very hard lesson indeed. Most importantly, I won't be kiting past 4pm during Winter as it gets dark far too quickly.
