hey guys. i was pumping up my rev today and when i was neally fininshed pumping all of a sudden the pump popped out of the valve and a crap load of air blew out almost to the point that the kite was fully deflated. usually the valve would keep the air in even if it was open but it had its mind of its own. so i pumped the kite to the point that the pump wouldnt get blown out of the valve, took the pump out of the valve and the air stayed in and i was off. but just curious, cos the kite did needed to be pumped up more. just need some other opinions. is it the valve or just me over inflating it all the time?

I don’t think you’re over inflating it, just sounds like you need some practice pumping up. Go to your local spot and offer to pump up other people’s kites for them. Practice makes perfect!

Actually i notice this too with my new Rev. I'll pump it up to the right amount and then the little ball in the valve doesn't want to play the game. I think its just cause its a brand new kite and it'll come good soon...... Right?

I wouldn't be so sure, my link does the same thing from time to time.
Sometimes the stopper ball in the valve doesnt come foward enough to close the valve. I give the valve a bit of a wiggle before disconnecting the pump and the ball usually locates correctly.

My TD2 does the same thing . It worked when it was brand new, but now I just use my finger to cover the valve and then quickly plug it without losing too much air.

My Fuels do this occasionally. I usually squeeze the base of the valve where the ball is to loosen it up before pulling out the pump. The ball sometimes sticks.

Also noticed this with my Rev - pull the pump out fast and perfectly perpendicular to the LE (aligned with the valve) - this should force the ball to engage - but it sometimes dosent.

while we are Slingy bashing, I dont think much of the little hook on the pump leash, not very secure in over 20 knots. I do a larks head around the 'surf clip' but this can be a pain to undo

otherwise hard to fault

My Waroo lost the centre strut valve ball not too long ago. I was pumping and the nozzle slipped out of the valve (as it sometimes does when pumping up hard), and as it did I saw and heard the ball whizz past my face

Tried looking for it, but no joy in a 20kts on a near white sanded beach - so now I gotta pinch it which is not too big a deal, but always seem to lose more than I want

For the other struts, sometimes I notice the ball is not centred on the valve before removing pump nozzle, so a bit of a twist of the strut (towards ground) to let gravity helpout whilst removing pump always seems to do the trick.

YEP IT'S NOT THAT HARD!!!!!!! GOTTA WATCH THOSE STICKEY BALLS THO.....

A fair few fuels lose their stopper balls-
inside their main bladder I have noticed, over 10 kites that I know of. Sometimes my 8m gives me a bit of grief because it's got smaller bladders but it's pretty easy to get your finger on top of the valve and lose next to nothing, just ask anyone that learnt on kites pre 2003.

Your going on about them having a one pump kite and still complaining. Perhaps you should read the original post again dude, cause as matter of fact - jacky was just asking a question - there has been no complaining - except by you

If I can use your tone - I think you may need to smarten to ***k up. Nothing wrong with moving ahead with technology - one pump with ball valves means less pump faf and more kite time to me. But if your soooo old school and just cant let go of your old 8 pump kite with no stoppers, no pump leash and crappy plastic shafts - then thats your problem. But dont pank on others for asking what they feel are legitimate questions please ! I hate seeing these kinds of replies cause it discourages people to post.

So I spose you use a wood fired hotplate in your kitchen to cook, and boil a tub of water over an open fire to bath in once a month too - or perhaps you still use candles to see with at night.....

When placing your finger over the airvalve just remember to wear gloves (figure 1) to prevent an Air embolism from killing you.

Getting back to the topic people..........

I have the 9 and 13 Rev, and also owned a 7 fuel a year ago until upgrading to the rev.

My 7 fuel did this occassionally but worked fairly consistently. I always give the ball a wiggle and try to twist the kite to point the valve downwards so that the ball drops down and plugs the valve.

My 9 rev works almost everytime with that method.

My 13 Rev almost never works properly. I think it worked once when I first bought it but I could be wrong. It reduces the air lost but never seals properly. I suspect there is a daggy bit around the sealing surface because the ball does what it should but never seals properly.

Jacky, I feel your frustration. It gives me the shytes too. But show me a stopperball inflation valve that is 100% reliable. I've used Naish, Wipika, Best, Slingshot and they all do it.

What size Rev do you have? I put 8 psi into my 13 Rev and 9psi into my 9 Rev. If its not blowin over 25 knts then 8psi is fine for the 9m.
The smaller kites need a little more than reccomended because of the thinner LE.

If your learning then I reccomend you put about 1-1.5 psi less into them to soften the thrashing they're gunna get.

9 psi in your 9M. Crap. I have a 11m and im putting, or attempting to put, 13psi. No wonder im shagged before i even get on the water.

buying a rev is where u went wrong! at age 15 the fuel is the way to go so u ride a real freestyle kite

There is a very good reason to tell people to HTFU is pushes people to go harder but u wouldnt know about going hard cause ur too busy winging about how not to diss people that are talking about inflate valves!

13 PSI is like your average rugby ball [not hard enough for official games]

ok atomic ur hell cool. i dont see y u would want to pump 13psi into a kite or where you would find a pump that could handle that as most pumps are rated at maxing out at 12 which means ud normally get 10 if ur luky and then ur pump would die after doing so 3 times over.

meanwhile i had a lovely session today on my kite that was pumped to 6 maybe 7 psi without a guage and without a stopper ball. i then went out to have a lovely time at mullaloo on my greeny brown poo colour kite which is a very very nice kite at a very nice and affordable price. go talk to jason at west oz if anyone feels like trying out a liquid force hifi for a sweet wakestyle and pretty smooth loooping kites.

it was sucha drag pumping up tho as i had to use my finger to cover the hole b4 plugging it to ensure i ddnt loose too much air.



AS FOR jackys actual post.. ul find that if u shake the kite a little n watch the ball fall into place you wont have any issues, when i had waroos i foudn they did the same thing, when u pull the nossle out and the ball doesnt fall into place at once the pressure made by the air leaving the valve pins the ball into a corner and it cannot roll into place.

What is it with these little ball valves anyway..and having to soak the frig#$% valves in hot water and resetting the caps etc They are always leaking on me....There is a better way... I like the Cabrinha pump up system for one with the screw down valve and non return valve (though I don't own one) When are the manufacturers going to update these valves that really should be only found on air-beds? I was amazed to demo an 08 rebel and still have to blow up every strut individually with a ball valve.. Five min. on the water and the centre strut was flat from the loose fitting valve cap! The kite is great but the valves...?

holy high pressure batman, 13psi...? my elbows are giving out and i gotta get someone to come help me push the pump plunger anywhere near eight psi. one pump systems rule, i'm too lazy to pump every strut, and jebus, have you seen how many struts there are on a link...? do those suckers one at a time, just start the day before you wanna kite...
