With a little over a month to go were just finishing off our event details for the Midwest Windfest, its going to be a relaxed fun event, our aim is to highlight the region, its wind, and the freedom our sport gives us.
Its a great chance to meet new crew and test all the latest gear from the following retailers

The event is pay as you go, food etc, there will however be a charge for insurance to compete in any of the events , this wont apply if you are a current waksa or ka member, however theres nothing stopping you from coming up and sharing the event with us, but for insurance/health/safety regs youll have to be covered to compete in comps and downwinder,

Hi Everyone, we are now ready to register kiters for the event. Thankyou for all the pre-registrations, we have had 80 so far which is quite exciting and also challenging.

Everyone who has pre-registered will shortly receive an email requesting payment and the signing of an event waiver.
If you haven't pre-registered, you can still register using the same link (below) and you will receive an email as above.

We have done our best to keep the costs to a minimum, but there are some essential costs which we do need to cover such as water safety, insurance, transport and other incidental costs, so the costs are as follows:

Event Registration including compulsory personal Event Insurance $85

Event Registration if you are a confirmed paid up KA member $25

The $60 insurance we pass straight to Kiteboarding Australia. We will need to confirm with KA that your membership is paid up to 26th November in order to not pay the $60 fee. (KA and WAKSA are the same membership by the way)

Options:

T Shirt with MWWF branding S/M/L/XL $25

Dinner at Burnt Barrel after Downwinder on Saturday 25/11 $50

So minimum cost is $25 if you are a KA paid up member. Max is $160 if you are NOT a KA member and would like a T-Shirt and dinner.

Airborne kitesurfing is stoked to be at Midwest Kitefest in Geraldton - 24th to 26th November 2017

The Airush demo fleet will be available with the full range of Airush Kites, Twintips, Surf and Foil products available from the 2018 Range free to try all weekend.Airborne & Airush Team Riders will be at the event putting on Freestyle and Big Air Exhibition sessions and showing off the capabilities of the 2018 Airush Kites.

Dave B from Airborne will be on hand helping with demos and assisting kiters getting out on the water on the different gear!Checkout the Airush & Airborne Marquee at Midfest Windfest and grab a ride!

Is registration/ insurance required to demo gear? Will retailers be asking for a "registration number" or something similar before they hand over the gear?

That's down to each retailer, but Id be surprised if they wont demo you gear without being registered. Not an issue for us as organisers.

The registration fee and waiver is all about covering insurance, water safety, event application PL requirements etc for the down winder, waves and big air. You have to register to participate in these events.

ill be voting no, one of the reasons for this event is to assist retailers in kite sales, come on up, enjoy the vibe, chill out with us and have a beer, and demo your arse off, this event is a relaxed gig, however we carnt host events ( ie big air, downwinders etc0 without people being insured, its a requirement from the city of geraldton or any other city/shire/region, but if you want to do any of these events, YOU need to be covered, its not a closed group event, youll be as welcome as anyone, cheers mick

Will people be taking their nonkiting partners to the dinner and are they welcome. And can we book and pay for dinner on the night because it will depend on babysitters.

It's a pay as you go, if you choose to go to the burnt barrel you pay the vendor, if you choose not to go that's fine, we need numbers through rego to notify the patrons, , I'm no good at baby sitting also

myself and dave are getting bombarded with what if , what's included etc
all the info is on the rego,
however here is it in simple terms
if you want to come up, trial equip, kite, enjoy the vibe and hang around, watch comps etc, it's free of charge
if you want to enter comps, big air dwinder as per rego then you have to pay insurance, as per rego form,

the event is a relaxed social kiting get together, you'll be greeted in the same manner if paying or not, however YOU Carnt enter comps unless your insured as per the rego form

Hi MIck,

I'm sure this will be sorted, but i dont think the rego form i received specified that dinner was pay as you go. Hence I transferred funds to cover the dinner as well. I'm sure other people will have done the same. No biggie, I'm sure it wil be sorted, just wanted to point that out given your comment that dinner is pay as you go.

Sorry my bad, should of put it better, you need to pay for dinner if you wish to attend the burnt barrel after the downwinder, this is on the registration form, it's a requirement from vendor so they know numbers , all money goes direct to them

Hi guys, bit of an update, the event starts 2 weeks this coming Friday.

So far we have had about 100 pre-registrations, but only 15 have paid the registration fee and signed waivers. Thanks very much to those who have!

If you are thinking of coming then would really appreciate paid registration across this week. Our challenge is that we have quite a bit of fixed costs in relation to water safety for the big air, waves and down winder regardless of the number of participants. If we don't get many more registrations we may have to have some changes in format to cut costs. There is also a 2 week lead time for things like T-shirts, dinners etc.

Appreciate some people will be waiting to see how the forecast looks, and we have not set a cut-off date as yet. But 2 weeks before, i.e. next weekend, we are going to have to make some tough decisions.

So please, if you are coming please do register this week.

15 Nathe registered is not a good indication of actual numbers.

I know a heap of people coming up and have booked accommodation, however they have not registered as they are not participating in any of the organised events.

Many of these folks are just keen on getting up there, demo-ing a bit of gear, going for a kite, drinking, eating and socialising with the kiting community, and enjoying the stoke.

I understand that but to have over 90 register that's a big drop. It'll be a shame to see these guys put in so much work especially for the downwinder and no one enter. It's not competitive anyway just grab your board and belt a few waves downwind.. yeew cya's up there

I thought that backroll kiteloops landing on my back was my specialty. But then to be honest I usually don't rotate that far, landing on my head seems to happen far more often.

We need to do the downwinder before the big air because chances are I won't be getting back on the board for a while after the big air

By the looks of things and correspondents we will have some solid figures for people coming to the Midwest windfest , this is great, come to the event, demo gear, attend some tutorials and feel free to be part of the event, there's no charge for this, however if you want to participate in some of the events / downwinders/ big air etc this requires us to ensure your arse is covered, if your already a current( up to date) waksa or Ka member that's great,
Please note, that everyone and anyone, paying or not will be welcomed at the event,

Lol I hear ya... last Sat my over rotated back buster kiteloop has left my bottom rib very tender but not cracked.

Lots of risk we take, but forget till we come unstuck
