do logos weaken kite fabric ?
had a canopy failure mid air just after turning in 22 to 26kn gusty southerly,
torn from tail to leading edge appears to have started at logo.

2 year old kite has had a lot of use ,just asking is all?

I'd guess the opposite: More likely the fabric is UV affected and thus weakened a little. The logo has protected some areas from UV damage and the tear has run along the boundary of strong and weak

you can see how fragile or worn that kite is by the excessive white veins through the canopy.

looks like you got good use out of that kite.

No I havent had that problem with my logos

But as said earlier the logo will have prevented the fabric from being subjected to UV, so the fabric were the logo ends becomes a high stress area and is the weakest link.

Either that or you just simply get to much time on the water that you have worn that kite out

is a 2010 switchy just over 2 years old ,only live 1 street from beach so in terms of hours of use
would be in 3rd or 4th season
didn't expect it to pop mid air thought a wave may have claimed her.
have up graded

Ok corrected,
I should have recognized the colour set. I have 2010 nomads that i am convinced the canopy is thinner than previous season cab kites. Maybe worth flicking a email to Cab HQ if you are original owner.

+1

That kite looks like it has seen quite a bit of action, and the force would have ripped through the logo except the logo protected the fabric from UV over time meaning the rip was going to happen on a weaker part of the fabric

Maybe we should cover the whole kite in one big logo lol

Is that an early heads up on the next Seabreeze comp?

Going by the amount of fading, your kite has had a lot of sun time, and although it can be repaired, you might be better putting the money towards a newer or new kite.
All kites are made from very similar kite fabric, there are really only a few brands of cloth and they are all actually very similar when it comes to longevity and surviving the effects of exposure to UV - the main killer of kite fabric.

Warning to everyone - Never leave your kite flapping in the sun when you are not using it.

IMHO Cabrinha kites would last at least a couple of extra seasons if their bags weren't so small.

The canopy must be getting damaged every time you squeeze those suckers into such a small bag. They are the only kite I've seen (and thats a lot) that get that crazy-crack crinkled appearance.

My Flexifoils are akmost as good as new after 5 seasons. The good size bag is some of the reason why.

There's more to this Bigwavedave, but I agree small bags will have a degrading effect over time, but not a big one in my experience.
Cabrinha use their own custom made sail cloth, they have been working with a large manufacturer for around 3-4 years. In this time the manufacturer has supplied cabrinha with cloth that has had a polyurethane coating that is thicker than it needs to be. This makes the cloth quite strong, but the downside is "chalking" or premature cosmetically unappealing crinkling of the cloth. This has been proven with our school kites over the last 3 years. This years seem cloth seems to be perfect, but the year before last was the worst for that excessive "chalking" and last years were ok but still did it more than we would have liked, especially on some colours.
