I've made a custom trim and converted my below bar clamcleat to above bar...... I've used some spare bits laying around and I've made a good & solid & simple set up with old slingy spare parts and some 6mm spectra.

What I also wanna do is make my trim longer but to do so I will need to shorten my front lines.

I can't just extend my rear lines because my flagging line is still too long....... Hard to verbalize without a diagram but I assure you that in order for it to work I gotta shorten my centre lines.

So...... I will need to unstitched, and then trim lines to required length. Then re-stitch at the new length.

Simple , right??

But what type of thread do I need to use???

Is it a special thread??
Can I buy it somewhere??

Or is it just some common type??

Help please??

Cheers.

Try using a Zacher knot to shorten your fly lines, assuming they are the kind that allow you to do so. I have done this before and the bonus is you can loosen the knot and adjust for line length.

Use 100% Polyester thread to restitch the trimmed lines . I have been using the Gutermann brand ( should be available at most sewing outlets ) of thread for a long time hand stitching of lines, repairs on kites, stitching on replacement trim lines , rashies and wetsuit repairs and it works great .

Learn to splice then making lines is easy. There's heaps of threads here with links to detailed instructions.

Exactly what Gorgo says - splicing opens a whole world of customisation, if you can splice you don't need to sew the line ends.

What I have done to a bar is simply add a longer pigtail to the rear lines. Then splice up a longer flag out (3mm dyeema) line and a longer trim rope in 6mm. This way the set up still takes off the shelf main line sets. Gives significantly larger trim range.

head down to a sail maker or canvas sewer and ask for a bobbin of debond polyester thread siz V92 for safest size. remember you go to sea with these lines so if your unsure best to get a kite repairer (like myself) or a sailmaker to do it. It isnt hard but be careful. you must keep the outer sleeve on your dyneema line. so after unstiching, dont pull it off because they are a bitxh to get back on.
