Yesterday was an interesting day on the water! the surf life savers were chasing down kiters between floreat and the drain pipe following them on their 4wheel bike with sirens on and all. they looked fairly pissed at people coming in within 5 mtr of the shore, i guess they were worried about australia day swimmers.

had a chat to them as i was setting up and they were pretty angry at us and he knew nothing re our new zoning for those downwinders.

anyway i think it was a once of being australia day and all. the biggest woory though was a loose kite at scarborough, after the owners leach gave way. the surf patrol boat with 2 teenagers a girl and a guy were trying to retrieve the kite. the girl was just jumping out of the dinghy and grabbing the kite by the bar, another fellow kiter was trying to grab it also. when i saw it was getting close to the scarb flags i grabbed the kite and brought to shore with lines still attached through swimmers and all, the beach was so packed so glad i didnt drop my kite and or let the runaway kite and bars go through the crowd..

I had my first kite at scabs (brighton end) in 8 years - kept going south until no people, launched - kited with one other bloke.

I then watched this armada of kites, like a swarm of wasps, sweep down the coast and pass me.

Was amazing to watch and shocked the hell out of me - having kited 8 year ago no more than 3 to 4 other people in total up and down coast!

I thought most crew kited responsibly, didn't see any issues - except when quite a few landed I beleive they should have been a little further south as the beach was unusually crowded by swimmers - and unbelievable babes...I gotta get out more -I'm still recovering!

sharks at swanny yesterday??? saw the chopper up and down the beach all day...heard no reports.

I dont mind seeing the whitepointers, I've seen way scarier things than that down that way.

Be nice to see them get out of their a/c 4wds for once and get them to grab my kite before the waves turn it inside out and tie it in a knot!

So how many hours do you volunteer at your local surf club??

If they are on patrol they wouldn't be near your kite........unless your kiting too close to the flags....
