Hi! I'm a swiss kitesurfer and I'm planning to come in Australia from mid december to end of february. I'm not alone in this trip... We are 3 me, my girl friend and our small baby girl (5 month in december...) We planning to go to WA in particuraly Margaret River, but our choice is not arrested for the moment... We are looking to let an accomodation for 3 of us but for the moment it will be wery difficult to find something... in general we find holiday accomodations, but for 2 month it will be quite expensive! Somebody have an idea where I can find someting to let for 2 month not necessary in MR but a good place to kite in WA (no flat water but waves) safe place for a baby!!!! Thanks in advance for your idea's, propositions and more.....

Unless your in a swag everywhere is expensive.

Might be an idea to get a motorhome sort of arrangement. You can then explore the coast. There is a lot to see and a motorhome would get you off the beaten track a fair bit and add some adventure.
Plus they are fully self contained, cheaper than a house plus all the best campsites are free or cost next to nothing.

Definately agree with Relli. You'll never get a rental agreement and holiday houses will be very expensive then. That way if you don't like where you are for any reason, you're not stuck there, you just drive somewhere else and there you go, problem solved.

Why don't you check out this option: www.lancelinlodge.com.au

It is a holiday lodge/sports persons accomodation in a small village 110 km north of Perth. They have really neat rooms, clean, friendly and does not have the general backpacker crowd. Its safe for kids and the owners Trevor & Trish will look after you guys great. Drop them a line and ask them about staying for 2 months and they will work a good rate out for you.

You can then get to the beach with your kite gear in less than 5 mins walk and have access to both flat water and waves over a number of locations. There will be other like minded people there to kite etc and its a good vibe......The village Lancelin itself has everything you need and its only a few minutes away walking.

I've stayed there many times and I always go kiting in Lancelin to get away from the crowds in Perth.....Plus the wind is always better....

Lalex, I reckon Margaret River will be a better option than Lancelin. There is more to do in the general area, when the wind or waves aren't so good, nice vineyards to enjoy.

Just remember that you will need a car as WA is a big place. Don't worry about the cost of accommodation, it will still be cheaper than anything you can find in Switzerland over the Christmas period! Have a look at places where someone might let you rent their place off them over the holidays. Maybe look at staying at a few different locations over your time here.

Otherwise, go with Reli's idea of renting a motorhome. You won't be tied to one location - Western Australia isn't as fitted out for public transport as Switzerland - you can't just jump on a train and be in a new place in 30 minutes.

If you decide to get a motorhome make sure it has good airconditioning - a system that you can run off campsite power will be a good idea. Western Australia summers get hot! And the interior of a vehicle gets even hotter, not good for a baby.

I'm with Reli on this one also...stay mobile and be self reliant...esp. with a little one along. Personally I would rent a 4WD beast with all the mod cons.

I agree with the others about the motorhome / camper option.
Then you can start at one end (Margarets) and work you way up to the other (Lancelin or Geraldton.)
Its got me moist just thinkin about it!

The guys above do have a point....Travel in a camper van is a great way to see Oz and get to many different wave spots for kiting.

However may not be great for a young child in very warm summer temps. OK when the air con works while driving but when your stopped it will be hot and humid in there....!!..I guess the key you need to decide is the level of comfort your child needs??? Plus getting a camper van can also be expensive to rent, fuel and the added cost of campsites which are getting more expensive in Australia??? Do your homework before rushing into a decision?
