This Saturday, as I can not navigate. I decided to find app's kitesurf. I have liked these: You can search without spot's offshore winds and other parameters. It is based on WindGuru

play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zerouno.spot

This allows calculation of material parameters on kiteboarding

play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.bitpipeline.app.kitesurfbuddy

I have also found this app for iphone with cool spots for sports

https://itunes.apple.com/de/app/splocs/id433281938?mt=8

The digital buddy to advise you on what kite and board size to use when you want to get in the water.

As much as I appreciate the effort as an app developer myself, I'd be worried of people who need to enter dozen of parameters into an app to decide which kite size to take!

So have you find any of these apps useful at all? I've used http://weendy.com/ a bit but found it too cumbersome, refreshing Seabreeze graphs compulsively and texting mates still is the easiest and quickest!

its easier to just take all your kites to the beach. look at the water and pump up your desired kite.... sounds simple huh!

Don't forget to pick up a handful of sand and throw it up and study it's drift and direction.

I've developed a formula to work out what kite to use. If any IT person can help develop an app we can make a mint:
light wind = big kite
moderate wind = medium kite
strong wind = small kite
very strong wind = very small kite

I thought it was more like:

Light wind = mow the lawn, wash the car, drink beer
Moderate wind = surf Seabreeze whilst waiting for the live wind readings to increase
Strong wind = medium kite
Very strong wind = small kite and fun by the bucket loads.

I have a better app formula:

Kite size = Weight divided by (Wind strength (knots) divided by 2.2).

Wind strength as having power but not being overpowered.

That is the mid wind range of the kite.

Round to the nearest number.

KS=W/(KNTS/2.2)

lol

That is "O" for Awesome mate. I decided I like to be more powered than you so my variable is 2.6.

Kite size ?weight kg?wind speed knots
21? 82?10
14? 82?15
11? 82?20
9? 82?25
7? 82?30
6? 82?35

Erm - how tested is this - your formulae suggests that in 30knots at 90 kilos I should be on a 6.5 - that's pretty conservative!!!

He said to round up to the closest size.
30/2.2 = 13.64
90/13.64 = 6.59 = 7 metre
Sounds pretty much right to me!!!!

Yeh this works out on the money for me, nice one!

Although if you need a formula to pick you kite I'd be a little worried about kiting.. Also the old data principle of crap in crap out applies, it's only good if you know exactly how much wind there is and are honest about what you really weigh..

Actually you're onto something there. How about we turn that wind-speed app on the iphone/ipad into a more generalised one with the above categories and pictures, videos and wind charts to match popular brands of kites and boards? I am serious! And I know Obj-C and Xcode.
