Hi All, I know there is an old post regarding this but I just want to make it specific to stingers. I am thinking of heading out tommorrow afternoon (22 knots predicted) I would just like to find out if the local worry / wear anything for stingers. I have a 3/2 wettie that I was wearing in winter in WA I could wear it if necessary but I will be roasting so would like to avoid it if possible. I understand if you stay upright will be no issues but I would rather plan for the worst. I am looking at going out off farnborough beach. Any tips / advice appreciated. Cheers

Im not a local who might have a better idea, but my undrstanding is that summer is jellyfish season in queensland. Id wear something like a stinger suit at least (lycra) to ward off box jellyfish or irikundji. It migjt feel warm but if the jellyfish doesnt kill you it can be a very serious and long lasting injury. But to be sure Id just ask a local or lifeguard what the go is before you head out.

Hey Mat, you have very good reason for wanting to be weary of stingers. If something is going to kill you up here; it will most likely be jellyfish stingers. Far more prevalent and common up here are those suckers and they effen hurt big time! And now is the season for them!!
Plumbs,,, March is the least time to worry about stingers.
Like Bramber said, all you need is a stinger suit. Hook up with your local dive shop and get a stinger suit with boots and a hoodie. I know it looks dicky but you will be safe as houses, especially if you're kiting in a Northerly - North-Easterly, as those winds bring over the stingers for sure. Not sure about Yeppoon, but check with @Kemp90, as he lives there and knows the best spots, tides, times, etc.
Up in the tropics, it's what you DONT SEE that will kill ya.... crocs and sharks are far more obvious than jellys.

We only get box jelly's around the creeks and harbour.
They hate wind and ruff water so the run and hide up the creek.
So bo need to worry about box when the wind is up.

bluebottles will be out but they aren't really that bad!
