How do they measure this stuff when the difference is about 0.5m for a record...... and what is the flat plane they are up from?
where does the pit in front "start" ? Is the base line a 10min average of the flatness between sets? Often you cant see the lowest point in front of the wave as the previous wave is obscuring it.....? Who knows

Genuinely curious as the video posted a while back showing the 20 biggest or whatever had some that looked bigger when they measured as smaller etc....

I agree. 40m from where? Yeah horizontally looking at where the water seems to pick itself up and the crest of the wave, looks like a fair distance,. but measured vertically, is what I would fathom to be a proper measurement and visually it doesn't look that big.

IMO wave measurements should be from the perspective of the rider, as soon as they've done their bottom turn. Freeze frame and measure from base of his board to crest of wave, PLUS factor in angle of vision from the beach/land as well because it's not a straight up vertical measurement.

Solid effort don't get me wrong but I pulling into a giant wall with inflatable vest, jet ski back up isn't that insane. Massive chopes or the right is way heavier. There isn't that mush risk comparatively.
