Just finished my first 3 day 1 on 1 Kite Board Course - Zero 2 Hero at Woodman Point WA.
Fantastic location steady 20+ all of the long weekend.
Visually amazing with the sky filled with kites.
Great support from others in the water when just starting. Made some new friends who were at a similar stage.
Coming from the Gold Coast it was such a pleasure to have these steady winds.
Woodmand Point is isolated a vehicle is a must to find the site.
Beware some people make there desperate dollars by smashing car windows and stealing anything their cowardly act can find. I rented a scooter for the weekend as it was cheap transport and a bit of fun. Some low life stole it and I've been hit with a $1500.00 excess which would have bought me a kite.
Locals know the area is a risk, now I do too and so do you.

Spewin! He must have felt like a real bad ass burning off on a hire scooter, bet you he did a little gravel burnout, a wicked wheelie and pulled the finger on way out of the carpark too

Rumour has it the a certain person who is a slave to kiting has been known to roam the regularly frequented kite sites stealing 'death leashes' wherever he can.
Its his way of keeping beaches open for us all to enjoy. Its a labour of love and dedication as he is the only one who knows what a danger these accessories pose to our sport.

Sorry to hear about the scooter.

I have been thinking about this theft thing for a while now.

Surely with all the kiters around now we could sort taking turns keeping an eye out in the car parks, injured kiters spending a couple of hours etc. and if 2-3 of these a@*holes were caught surely that would put a dent in them or put the word arond that we won't stand for this.

Unfortunately the cops are too busy trying to catch people doing 4kmh over the speed limit to bother with this sort of stuff but if we do a few patrols, take photos and ring to cops with license plate numbers it has to help.

Worth starting a thread??

the problem is some of the low life's are loose as. Did you hear about the police car stolen during a stop a few weeks ago. Group of guys and girls stole a board from woodies beach one and we called the police from the beach. This is why they stopped the car looking for the board. Goes to show how crazy some people are.

you woody's crew have the worst carpark in WA for break ins...probably worst in oz.

I reckon its about time you set the bait car and a group of 10+ kiters wait out for the scum to appear then dish out some vigilante justice.

that'll learn em.

Hi Default,

As much as I agree with you (they got my laptop in '03), bashing them wouldn't cut it. Knowing the luck of the good guys, the cops would drive into the carpark at that moment and you'd be charged and arrested for assault and grievous bodily harm.

You'd be better off taking them out for a freediving lesson 20km out of the west end of Rotto with a car battery tied around their feet.

Then claim it was a freediving accident

Oops!

No denying Woodies is bad but everyone knows it and generally most take precautions.
The one ppl really needed to be alerted to is Leighton. This place looks safe as:- huge amount of passing traffic; busy carparks; runners and walkers in a fairly constant stream BUT ITS ANYTHING BUT SAFE. Gotta be at least as bad as Woodies if not worse.
Dont be fooled by appearance. Do whatever it takes there too.

I've never had a problem at Woodies but someone tried to break into my brand new car at Leighton in the middle of the day. Scum.

What the???

Been kiting @ Leighton for four years now & sure, there's the occasional break in, but to say Leighton is as bad or worse than Woodies' is a bit rich Puppet.

I'm not saying it doesn't happen, (winter is worse than summer) but YOUR local has to be the worst spot in WA for break ins...MY local is being maligned goddamm it & I'm just not going to put up with that...

Its a draw for me.
Woodies x1 drivers side window- feb 2010.
Leighton x passanger side window.- june 2010.

Insurance excess is about the same price as new windows.

Dont leave any valuables in your car at these locations,
I Leave one window down, they can have a look but will find nothing and
at least you'll have your windows.

That's a bit insensitive. How about using something more inert like a concrete bollard. Let's not litter the sea with lead and plastic car batteries. I am disgusted at your lack of ecological consideration!

I left a pair of thongs at sandy bay and after two weeks and they were still there.
How about two big eskies full of beers left at graveyards for a day before our wedding. Luckily there was no wind and the kiters weren't there drinking them when we arrived.

Woodies is such a brilliant spot with one really festering sore which has spread all the way down the Perth beaches. My young bloke had a student lose his wallet and two days tiling cash at the pond three years ago.

Surely someone could come up with a strategy to deter the scum?

How about making lots of complaints to the coppers then pooling together to get a security guard to patrol on the weekends and blow it out of all proportion in the press.

Barring that you could still probably lay your hands on the cyanide bombs they used to use to kill foxes. Just remember where you put them
