Fellow kite maniacs: Do you worry about losing your mind and your fitness in Winter??!

I clocked 87km/h on the GPS down Welshpool road this Sunday.

http://www.southperthrouleurs.com.au/club-training/ride_routes/sunday-rides/spr-sunday-61-14km-welshpool-weir-rd/

I took up the bike again this year after a long time off it. I found it's keeping me fit and sane thru winter with some social interaction as well!! With the Giro D'Italia just passed and the Tour about to begin, and good SBS coverage, lots of motivation on hand.

Post here if anyone's keen to go for a ride - all paces, mainly NOR / Coastal / Round river routes.

You can even wear your boardies over your lycra if you're that way inclined - all welcome!

Good winds and happy trails!

I ride to work downtown everyday from Scarbs, would be keen for a monster ride every now and then on the weekends. I take it you have a roadbike?
87 is fast maybe I'll meet you at the bottom of the hill after a few speedchecks.

Looks like you're one of those buggers that get around in lycra and ride on the road?
The cyclists up my way hate me. I drive really slowly next to them and slowly veer into them

well i've done 70+kph on the mtb down a mountain track riding over baby head sized stones. that was pretty silly.

I mtb every tuesday night summer and winter. day and night. the mtb fittness is good to kiting and the kiting is good for mtb.

But I also Kite year round and don't understand why people have a kiting off season? is it because the wind buggers off in your part of the world? or you don't like the winter squally conditions?

Am i missing something?

Sun going down at 5pm in winter generally has something to do with it... And then on the weekend the wind isn't there... damn...

I'll stick to my 47km daily rides for now and prepare myself for the summer...

I'm always keen to ride.
I manage around 300 to 400km most weeks.
Do a group ride every sat.
Long ride is a weds morning. By long I mean 80 to 120km. I'm alone on a weds now as my bike mate is away so always keen for company
I'm not the fastest but can ride a steady 30kmh for hours and hours.
Im fully into the bike now

I ride in winter if it is not going to be good for kiting and/or I can't organise to finish work at 3:00 to get an hour's kiting in.

There's more still days and there's nothing nicer than noodling along the cycle track to work in the morning.

I ride home so that the last half of my ride is after peak hour, then I can switch to the road and ride considerably faster.

I have outrageously good lights so visibility in the darker sections of the cycle track is not a problem. (BTW All you clowns with extra bright bike headlights need to learn how to dip them. Being blinded by an approaching cyclist sucks.)

I don't think cyclists should ride on the road in peak hours, and definitely not in packs or pairs riding side by side. Nothing infuriates motorists more than two cyclists cruising along chatting about crap and blocking a whole lane.

It seems that motorists have been forced to behave better due to public education, high traffic densities speed cameras. Cyclists are still at the selfish hoon phase with everybody trying to ride as fast as possible with no consideration for other road or path users.

Are you one of those goose that rides on the West coast Hwy from Scarborough to City Beach????

I don't condone bikers hatred, we need to share the road but when you are riding at peak hour traffic blocking a lane when there is a vacant bike path approximately 1 meter on your left, you deserve to be run over

^^^ probably is. My area is inundated by weekend cyclists. All these fat bastards on $7000 bikes and team-branded lycra.

They drive the Audi to the beach. Ride the flat 10k to the first cafe strip. Munch on coffee and cakes for a couple of hours then roll back to the car to drive home.

Apparently they're known as golfers because they should be having heart attacks on the golf course where they belong. They only buy bikes because their boss has got a wax job, leg tatt and a carbon fibre race bike so they have to sniff his bike seat to keep their jobs.
