Hi All,

I'm going to visit my Dad in Honiara for a week from March 8th to March 15th.

Is it windy there in March? - What is the usual strength and can it be done from Honiara or do you have to travel around the island to find a suitable beach and wind direction?

Any tips appreciated,

I lived there for 2 years and remember there being not that many windy days in honiara... but i visited the outer islands alot and they would have been great as the wind used to come in just like the seabreeze does in perth every afternoon(can't really remember what time of year).

Honiara is a bit of a hole but if you get the opportunity to get away from the city the rest of the solomon islands is paradise...

Honiara is similar in weather to Cocos Islands. This time of the year there is bugger all wind until the monsoons disappear.

In our winter, the SW trades should be blowing at Honiara (as they do at Cocos)and the wind shoud be better at these times.

Hi

Worked in Honiara a year ago for six months. Loads of raw sewage outfalls

along the town coast line and plenty of shallow coral.

Sometimes access to beaches (coral, no sand and very narrow) can be difficult. You have to pay to enter the beach as you come off the main road. I never saw any kiting there when I was in town May - Nov 06.

Can't comment on outer islands.
