Most of us Port Stephens way have converted to Slingshot T3's. Great kite, tough, stable, turns well, excellent relaunch, and drifts downwind nicely. I think the 9M would hit the mark for you.

at your weight i would settle for a 12m. 9 is too small and at 77kg you will need just about 25 kts to get going, even on a surfboard. most of my mates are your weight they have both 12mtrs and 9's and i've probably seen the 9's out twice all season. If you live between geroa and point perpendicular get a 9 meter but if not definately get a 12m or you will be one very frustrated kiter

Are you kidding? I weigh slightly less, 70 - 75kg, and get going comfortably with my 9 in 15 knots on a surfboard. Big kites suck in the surf, they're too slow, and will just drag you away from the wave you want to be riding. I reckon your mate's about right, a 9 - 11m kite. Check out the buy and sell, do your research, and don't buy a Link.

ummm yep, would have to agree with all of that. I am 95kg's and get out on my 8.5m as soon as it hits 20kts - and that is on a twin tip. If you are in the waves on a surfboard then a 9-11m is on the money as your big kite and you will be wishing for a 7 as soon as it hits 20kts.

Don't focus on a brand yet - focus on the type of kite you need first. And please get lessons. If you find one that might be OK, post a question on here for people to give thier opinion on it's suitability, at least that way you will avoid any nasties.

Wtf? is there magic wind in that small bit of coast?. this is a load of bull, that bit of coast is no windier than most of the nsw coast. Also your advice on kite size is way off. I weigh 80kg and get going on my 9 with a surfboard in about 15-17 knots. I never go out on my 12 in more than 20 knots, It can handle up to 25 but is not fun to ride in this wind strength.

Tez, just make sure you get some lessons. Your instructor will give you all the advice you need, plus you will be able to try a couple of different sized kites and make your own mind up.

1-Get a kite that is super easy to water relaunch it:
In any position of the kite when you pulling a line kite should turn around (not to travel to the edge of the window)
