I am travelling to Wallis Lake this long weekend, just to get away for a bit and thinking to bring along my kitesurfing gear. Should I bother? Is it a decent place to kite? Is it usually windy in the winter? Any tips?

Yep can kite Wallis lake and can be ok during winter in a NW through to S breeze. Have gone out a handful of times from near the sailing club just down from the cafe. Nice shallow water with sand/mud bottom. If for some reason the wind has east in it I guess you could go exploring and launch from the other side somewhere.

Oldbar is good from NE to S for flat and also waves on the beaches
Namasty beach house is run by a kiter and not a bad place to stay, but finding accommodation could be difficult.

unless the forecast improves you best take a sup

+ 1 for Namaste beach house. Really cool vibe and attached to the best cafe in town.

You can get a few more knots out of the current in the lagoon in the right tides.
