Here in WA, in summer, it goes like this - easterlies in the morning, temps around 30 to 35, then a sea breeze (sou wester) about mid afternoon, usually around 15 knots and above. You'd have to think that this was perfect conditions for a beginner kiter, right? Right. Only it hasn't happened like that for several weeks

I had my lessons (3 spaced over about 3 weeks due to poor conditions), then went out and got all the gear an enthusiastic beginner is going to need (kite, board, harness, reel leash, gath helmet, impact vest), and have been sitting on my ass since then, waiting for conditions suitable for me to head out in. Admittedly there have been one or two days of good conditions, but those would be the days I have to be at work, of course. Doh!!!

Conspiracy, global warming or just bad luck

At this rate, by the time a good day coincides with a day off work, I am going to need another lesson I haven't even rigged my new kite up yet

Don't go to work.... a boss that couldn't sympathize would have to be a bum...

Exactly the same as what happened to me last season, also my first season, extremely frustrating. But the begining of this season was awesome, as was kitestock, so now it's payback I guess.
I started a long anticipated 2 week holiday on the road up the coast leading to kitestock with only 1.5 hours on the water before Port Denison, so I empathise fully.
There are a few spots in Perth you can do on an easterly when desperate, I am considering a midnight session at one of them in a few days when the moon is nice and round, as I am stuck at work all day every day for the next 2 weeks and wont have any time in the day.
The nature of the sport really!

We have had NON stop wind over here for ages now with swell everyday!! Lovin life here at home at the moment. On the recent WA trip we did before nats we had the same problem, SW just wouldn't happen, not like a few years ago anyway. We got few good days thou.
Hope things improve for you guys before summers end. I know i was glad to go to work yesterday after a solid 4 days of riding 5 hours a day .
Sounds like kitestock was great for wind thou.

WA (Perth) gets consistent sea breezes form late october to early feb... feb and marh become irregular (ie what you have been seeing) and april its all over until september..

In the same boat as you Mellow, Been kiting for a little while and just getting to the stage where I can go up wind. Was told WA is the place to be at this time of year so off I went for 2 weeks. In the 2 weeks i could go out only twice. Not happy. So kite didn't get a very good work out but the pub did.

By the way, when do your holidays finish??? Oh yeah, that'd be Sunday. See you at work on Monday That pretty much guarantees good winds on Monday. DOH!
