Fly the kite at 12 and sheet in completely for like 5-10 seconds, if it goes backwards that means you got to ride with a bit more depower. Keep pulling it in until the kite does not want to fly backwards (this is the most powered unhooked setting). Depending on line length (especially if your lines are a bit stretched) you may find that you have to pull in quite a fair bit of depower until you reach this point, if your just going to unhook or it is really windy I suggest that you depower it on the pigtails (either at the kite or on the bar) so you have more unhookable depower to play with on the strap.

Starting off you probably idealy should ride 5th line or on a >100% depowereable setup, once you deal it in a bit more you can move to a suicide leash if you feel comfortable. When you unhook don't try and crank up wind, point down a little while you unhook and crank back upwind as you pop. If you try and maintain a straight line you won't get as much pop and will be more work on your arms.

just ride with your 5th line, it will stop the kite hitting the water hard and reduces the chances of you repairing your gear and yourself. When you are good enough you will know what suicide is

Download aaronhadlow(.com) riding in brazil or invent. Watch closely the position/angle of the kite and how he bears downwind slightly to gain speed, and carves hard(load) just before the pops.
Can always get a few pointers from the best...
