Hey all,

We (probably 3 people) are planning a trip to australia this winter.
We have been to the goldcoast before and we are figuring out where to go now.
At the moment the consideration is between perth area (more wind?) or the melbourne area (more other things to do?)

We are heading for about a month starting around the 10th of december.

Anyone had a good kiteboarding trip to OZ who can give us some advice? Should we rent a camper and if so which route should we take?

Perth has lots of White Pointer Sharks in the water and poisonous snakes at nearly all the good kite spots.

not to mention the killer box jellies,drop bears and hard core angry locals and crocagators that hang around Peth

You will get more consistant wind in WA through summer,for sure, but , some good winds and uncrowded magic spots on the East coast mid/north coast NSW.Well worth a look.
Where are you comming from????

At that time of year you have many great choices.

west coast road trip: augusta-exmouth amazing kiting locations and world class wind.

East coast road trip: southern NSW all the way to SE QLD, again a plethora of awesome kiting spots, pretty good wind(not as good as WA but still kiting most days)

southern coast road trip: Melbourne - Adelaide not to sure about this one but I know they get plenty of wind and big seas. The water is much colder though.

You really can't go wrong with any choice here, It all depends on what you want out of your holiday. If it is kiting only then WA is probably the safest option. But there is a lot more to do(outside kiting ) on the east coast.

Just remember to respect locals and DON'T RIDE NEAR FLAGGED SWIMMING AREAS and you'll be sweet.

As the climate warms, drop bears have now moved as far south as Melbourne. Don't get me wrong, Melbourne is still cold and miserable, but it has warmed up just enough that the angriest, sneakiest (and now vegemite-immune) species on the planet can live here. To compound this, the sharks get attracted to the bay even more now because of the rivers of blood flowing into it from all the beachside drop bear attacks.

The Australian government tries to keep the drop bear problem quiet so that tourists and their money will still come, but as an Australian with a conscience I have to let all prospective visitors know that more than 30% of tourists get mauled by drop bears, and nearly half of them don't survive their injuries.

The only hope is that the drop bears will die from the infections they are sustaining through their new habit of injecting their victims' blood into themselves with all the syringes they find at our beaches.

gee! those dropbears are breeding like rabbits and spreading like a plague!



i think they need to increase the height of the dropbear fence, as the dropbears really do pose a serious threat to the safety of us all.

Beware also the rarer, but also deadly, aquatic drop bear! Almost impossible to find information on this beast. Ever since the Australian Prime Minister, Harold Holt was taken by one there has been a complete media blackout on this creature. (google "Harold Holt" and you will see what I mean)

I would like to know how did the bears even get into the country? far out it sucks. You cant get to alot of your favourite beaches now, cause of the dam rangers putting in bear wires. They seem to be all over Vic, SA and WA the rest of the states are ok. I think i might google how they got here in the first place, cause it is a very harsh land for them to live in and breed. It's funny when you meet some one from the uk and tell them, we have bears in our state, they all go WHAT?? they think it's some sort of joke

Just to let you guys know i've been in Australia before doing the great downwinder sponsored by monkeykites at that time. (This means i already know about drop bears, great whites etc. You guys should figure some new creatures since even wikipedia knows about the drop bears;))

Is there anyone who can tell more about roadtrips around the west coast and possibly from melbourne to adelaide?

Melbourne to adelaide would take you through the heart of tantanoola tiger country, a scary animal indeed. but these days you could have beer with one.

There's a few choice spots to go to between Adelaide and melbourne. Goolwa, Kingston, robe, beachport/southend, pt macdonnell.
There's no shortage into Vic either, about 100 spots along the great ocean road. with one of the best being at each end.
You'll probably get more sensilble responses in the states individual thread.
