Okay, I've only been here a few weeks and added some crap, some advice and some questions to which many of you have been very kind in answering to great detail and I've learnt a lot.

Am I the only one in here that feels the regulars in here (experts no doubt) are being paid by corporations or companies that sponsore sbrz to say what they want!?

Is this place rigged?

I came in here thinking SBRZ is a place to share stoke, ideas, help others out and provide some information on new products, etc.

That's all well and good, but from what I am reading regarding all this hype over new kites, new materials and blah blah blah.,..... it just seems odd... the commentary seems to be very one-sided.

I noticed the opposite with a wide range of views and most people are quick to lynch the people pushing products. Just look at the Tarifa post.

Coloco Coloco.. you have a very valid point.

Money talks and if you pay the money, you get your products more advertising! You'll notice some people keep their opinions about kiting very close to their chest and others rave on constantly regarding regurgitating the same old stuff over n over again. Controversy causes interest n gets reactions which get people logging on. Kiteforum.com is out there too but kiting beats any superficial hype. Getting a discount on a product can and often does result in a biased opinion from leeches!

Seems all sports are drivin by marketer's, not hard working people that enjoy the sport for pleasure these day's... It's all about the sick new latest $2500-3000 KITEs that are going to make you better and how you couldn't possibly use your skills and use a 2003-2012 FUEL.
Or pm Kemp n he'll tell you how crap they are.. ha ha..

Just cause Karolina would put his BUT at cockroach race's!

Many dudes on here are either shop owners distributors or sponsored riders.

Colo, mate, how many forums do you have experience in?

This place is quite chill compared to many other forums I'm involved in (cars/mountain biking/rock climbing/coffee). Commercial guys have commercial interests but contribute just as much as everyone else. They're not quite as entertaining as some others but you can't have everything.

If you want to see a really sponsor controlled site, go to coffeesnobs. You can't even post a link to an external commercial product for sale and even member all push the sponsors.

The only real person on this site who isn't a brand-pimp is me . Credit where it's due.

It's easy to understand the formula, those who advertise can pimp their wares, those who don't get moderated. It's a business, so it doesn't surprise me in the slightest.

lofty? nah mate, I don't usually loft when kiting or when putting an opinion out there. Is that what you meant?
I think we all say crap really. Seriously, look at the threads lately. I think the only ones putting in experinced comments with meaning is Christian, Eppo and Cauncy.

To be honest with you guys, I'm okay with retailers, team riders, distributors having their say and yes putting their best foot forward.

Its just another piece of information to add to the mix before one actually tries the kite to decide.

Take Terry Mctool for instance...ozone distributor and would talk to a blind and deaf man for an hour about how good ozone kIt'es are...but within this is some very informative experienced material. Same with some team riders. For instance Terry has also heavily contributed lately to that endless (please make it stop..) thread on using sliding spreaders etc. plus many others as well. He contributes, so good on him.

or maybe Darren from action sports. he obviously promotes north, core kites...but I tell you when he writes something, you guys should start listening!! there are few better who understand the nuances of different types of kites (or can explain them as articulately anyway).

...and take the forum itself. I think some forget it is someone's small business. funny, people happily type on Facebook everyday...worth billions on the stock market. The search engine you used to be here...probably billions as well.

Get comfortable with business and pleasure mixing through the same portal, In some ways it's a far better reflection of reality. Before the onset of huge governments supporting the enormous and costly public sector and all the zombie welfare payouts it manages, the entire economy was predominantly small businesses...people always were socialisng, discussing, making friends while doing Business....

so just relax and take in all points of view, vested or not, it doesn't matter. only you can decide to buy something if it suites.

Bring on on the pimping I say, mostly it's incredibly funny...

ps plus it's downright more informative than the product clips such as the new one north has done on the rebel...spew factor 10.

No you don't need to be a sponsor to pimp.
I think in the beginning everyone was still learning what worked so info was shared hence it was interesting but now all the questions about what works has been played out over and over. The only thing left to talk about is rubbish. Or we could go back to filling kites with helium again.
For me I used to try every kite I could but now i just want to kite I know what works for me and trying new gear just eats into what I want to do.

It's rare that anyone tells you that their 6 month old kite is rubbish. Everybody is stoked on their equipment and happy to tell you how their gear is better than yours. It's an equipment sport. It started out that way because every year the gear improved so much.

Now really all the gear is good, whether you have a chicken loop, a slider or a little ball. At the end of the day the gutsyest Kiter has the most progression. They probably would do the same on a 5 year old kite.

Its not all corporate push. Its great after spending thousands on kiting gear to tell everyone how great it is and they totally agree with you.

Justifies your purchase! Particularly when deep down you know your old stuff would have lasted another two years.
