WS is such a basket case, holding the sport back in so many ways (Olympic classes anyone?). The UN has more direction than those monkeys. It would be a huge burden to the sport to have to adhere to the fees and bull**** sailors have to put up with.
Windsurfing tried to have realistic classes 20yrs ago, a proper fast planing racing class........ spent a LOT of money on developing it
But it was the Olympic mob who wanted to be able to run it in near zero wind so THEY buggered it and forced us to stick with old tech.
So no, WS is not holding things back. If they went with Formula like we wanted there would be full planing racing spectacle from about 8kn upwards but they want to be able to run the racing (incl yachts) on any water close to the Olympic city anywhere in the world on every day of the year be it 1kn or 30kn.
Fees and rules are not a burden. Go try and enter Olympic without winning a national qualifier and thus having the support of the national body which means being a member and so on. Just cos you have the latest kewl sport does not mean it will be like the Dodgeball movie crossed with a Crusty Demons video.
But Jmac - you posted this in kiting and windsurfing asking "are they trying to ruin out sport?"
You may have to clarify if you think they are trying to ruin windsurfing or kiting..
