^^^ I'm trying to think way back to high school but yes vectors are applicable to kiting if you want to break it down that far. Don't ask me to try and explain it though. Unless we've both had several Turkey cans beforehand

even more-so. We can get out in lighter winds, where apparent wind varies more with changes in rider's speed.

We sine the kite to generate power - increasing the complexity of the vectors even more.

Even worse, our vectors have an extra dimension added to them - kiters just learning to jump don't send the kite back when trying to land. As the apparent wind stops rapidly when you hit the water, the kite suddenly finds itself dropping out of the sky. Again, as a mathemetician might predict, this effect is more apparent in lighter wind where the apparent wind is a greater proportion of the whole.

So yes, very relevant.

LIFE IS ALL ABOUT CHOICES!!!

My idea on simple maths would be.

1 wife
divide by 90%
subtract 2 kids
Add 3 Kites
Multiply by 4 days a week kiting
Do some square rooting in there also.

= no more complaints.

End effect is similar but mechanics are very different. By sineing the kite we are getting it moving faster through the wind than we are, increasing its apparent wind even further to increase the power. It also has the effect if keeping the kite further back in the wind window too

We can also pump - pulling and releasing the bar pulls and releases the back lines. Actual effect is pretty pointless though. In marginal winds trying to get onto a wave that you are just a little late for it may get you onto it. Only a small effect, nowhere near as much as pumping for windsurfers.

Compared to the ungraceful swim after a little crash, looking like a bloke wrestling a greasy air mattress on the water, then having to pack up and go home to sort thru a spaghetti mess of lines - whilst the windsurfers are still out?
Compared to Laurie having to warn you all there is tewwibly wuff weather coming?
