phillip Bolger was fitting endplateswith shortened fins to anything that floated and needed improved steering 30 years ago.
nice to see it on a board at last. My 9m gaff schooner uses one. 250mm draught rudder that steadies the boat and gives a wicked tight turning circle............... for a 30' schooner

Certainly scored Prawndog.... nice to get those conditions all to myself, had to let a few go for the occasional pole dancer that ventured out.

I really enjoyed the Q-fin mate.... took me a session to fine tune, but once I found the fins sweet spot in regard to position within the 10cm box it was endless fun.

Plummet... Below the Q-Fin illustrates very little similarities to the hydro foils I've seen, they have a keel with a wing or "foil" on the tip prodominantly right?

Very nice surfing, the vid gave me very little info about the fin though, I blinked and I missed seeing what it looked like, any further info available?

I would be very interested to give it a try on my new 2015 North Whip. If the q-fin is a good as SammyJ is saying here and Quantum are saying on their website then it could potentially make for my Whip to go to a whole new level. I find the Whip is a great board for what it is, just not the tightest of turning machine due to its big ass wide tail and very square rail outline.

Please accept I have no affiliation whatsover! But on visiting Quantums website I found it has some very interesting explanations on the science of their fin system and comparisons to a thruster setup. They are saying on their website that their fin system is best suited for small conditions up to 4 foot. I would like to know why that is only up to 4 foot? Where on the other hand they are saying that it holds far superior in the barrel. IMO if a fin system has far superior holding in a barrel situation then it should in theory have good performance in larger conditions as usually I find I blow a large wave from lack of hold particularly in taking the drop. Maybe it has something to do with increased speed to a board as they are claiming this as well but I'm sure all of us prefer boards that are fast as there are ways of washing of speed if needed, i.e. stalling the tail, edging etc.

Also there is no information of fin box placement if you want to retrofit it to your board and on the website it's saying there is a shortboard fin box and a mal fin box but both are stating on the website they are 8 inch fin boxes. I'm sure it has been a rush to build their website and they are yet to iron out a few details, including that their email URL is incorrect as it appears from my attempts to email enquire. It appears from the Video that SammyJ's in that he has the fin almost as far back as it will go in your fin box. If your about Sammy, could you care to comment on where and what you found about the placement or if you could enlarge on how you found the performance difference in comparison to a normal thruster setup? Also I agree with ROWDY it would be nice to know what the load and release is like, does it release easy or because so much fin area hydrodynamicaly carving through the water that it take extra effort to get the fins to pop?
