Hey bit late, but thanks to the windsurfer at Neill Street Caloundra (and the young kid who I think was just walking past at the time) who grabbed my kite on Anzac Day and the sailor then kindly allowed me to borrow his mobile phone so I could call my father who was picking me up after the planned session...also a thank you to the clubbie who put me on the back of his jetski and got me to shore.

I had launched from Shelly Beach and drifted to Moffat Headland in the Southerlies...I was downwinding to end up at Point Cartwright for the pick-up, planning to kite Moffs for at least an hour and had caught a couple of great waves when I got greedy and try to float an extensive section of whitewash and came unstuck..I survived the wipeout no problem and the kite was in the air but a momentary wind drop and probably because the wipeout had pushed me downwind of the kite, had the kite "Hindenburg" and literally fall out of the sky through the kite lines. I eventually got the kite in the air but twisted lines meant session over as the kite could not be controlled. I slowly body-dragged into Moffat beach itself as best I could, but ended up in the wind shadow of the headland, kite in the water and was pretty much just swimming my board and kite in to shore (albeit very slowly), when the Surf Club jetski arrived out of nowhere (thanks to whoever called them too), offered me a lift and I had to eject the kite knowing that it would probably end up on the rocks of Neill Street reef. The clubbies obligation was to rescue me and he advised the kite would have to be at the mercy of the elements...anyway by the time I raced north along the beach to the rocks, the windsurfer (and a young kid) had grabbed the kite and bar and lines for me, so a BIG thank you for that.

My Dad was called, gear checked (and luckily all okay) and I returned to Shelly for another crack at the good swells and wind and proceeded to have a session reminiscent of Namotu lefts but the rights of Moffat...skiing down the faces of double-overhead bombies and ending in beautiful smooth water in close. I enjoyed the session with a few windsurfers, a few surfers in close and thankfully no subsequent kiting mishaps.

The sailor even said to me tongue in cheek..."Don't let it be known that I didn't help out a kiter"...I hope some good karma went his way and he had a great session like I did.

Maybe you should take your kite back to the shop and get a hundred bucks for it..

Then go buy some windsurfing gear....

Not that RPM ever had any credibility... but he's just confirmed he is a total wanker.
