Sammyj is right, I can't imagine Si blowing up, you must have been doin' something majorly wrong. I've never seen Simon agro, always chilled.
Safety Bay is a place where there is a small amount of flat water, a lot like Woodmans Point. This attracts better riders who use it to practice their freestyle tricks because it is easier to stick landings on new tricks than in the chop.
Flat water is very precious and when hundreds of people descend upon safety Bay from all parts of the world every year, it gets even worse when people go getting in the way of a well ordered system designed to allow everyone to enjoy the butter.
It's not localism, it's common decency and respect. You had none by the sound of it.
I would suggest you learn from this experience and put it behind you. Go meet the locals and maybe even bring a few coldies to help break the ice. Ask them how the pond works and where would be the best place for you to get the most from your learning. I guarantee this will work.

Cheers,
